Interesting. That rendering ( the most updated vision ) does show a six story parking garage. However.............

..............looking at this photo it looks like it's going to be taller. I counted six levels so far with more going up. Unless some of these levels are below street level?
As much as the plans keeps changing with this development as buildings continue to get taller I wouldn't be surprise if plans also changed for this parking garage and that it wasn't worth the time to redo the rendering ( again ) just for it.

Cool little update ( with photos ) of 111 South Main/UPAC development.

http://111mainblog.wordpress.com/2014/06...ial-building-structural-beams-come-down/
"Each beam was quoted to weigh 88 tons and required the use of 2-3 hydraulic cranes to lift and lower the beams. Additional outrigging units were used to lift and stabilize the crane and weight of the beam."

Still can't believe the size of those two ( freeway size ) beams that were used. I wounder why such "big" beams were used?
Also notice from some of the pics that crews have already starting to dig a big hole on the future tower site. Moving right along.

It works fine but it seems trapped in the 1970s.

Orlando has lots to learn from your city but you should all still come and visit Harry Potter-Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando. It looks incredible!
Welcome! Excited to hear your input!!

Would make sease for Boyer to add floors to this thing since 151 keeps getting taller plus ( as Orlando already said ) it will also be shared by the housing on 200 East.
I was trying to remember the time frame that had been posted, but isn't 151 supposed to get started being built once that parking garage is finished? I thought I remembered someone on here saying something about that. Either way I'm excited to see some cranes start to rise in the near future for all of these new buildings that are on their way. We have lots going for us here in the near future.

Fun fact about the salt lake city airport: the airport scene from Dumb and Dumber was filmed there.

This has got to be one of the worst base terminations for a skyscraper ever. How it crashes into the UPAC is awful, and then how it just sits upon this tapered thing, that looks like it's mimicking the inverted Utah honeybee scheme, and onto a very light looking glass base that is smaller in footprint than the tower above. Awful. I suspect that my old classmate, that is now a partner with MHTN, is responsible for this. Robert, if you read these forums, please save the design!

Wasn't that Hamilton Partners' design? with a new developer on board, couldn't it change? It does look so...ordinary.

Looks like the old wood framing is being replaced with steel.. The steel sits up higher.. Hopefully they are able to maintain the original look.. And also rebuild the windows on the roof.

the hole was left when the old building was tore down... They have been puttin 50' plus beams in to the ground in the middle of the hole... Possibly for foundation stabilization????

Does anybody know what's going on directly east of Harmons? I haven't been able to see any updates on the spot, but there is a lot of excavation going on at the moment.

I notice a bunch of tractors parked in the lot a couple of weeks ago.. I was wondering the same thing.

Salt Lake City #5... Top 50

The 25 cities with the happiest employees

http://www.deseretnews.com/top/2567/0/The-25-cities-with-the-happiest-employees.html

Bethan Owen, Deseret News

Glassdoor has assembled a list of the 50 cities in America with the happiest employees, with Salt Lake City ranking 5th, higher than major metropolises such as San Diego, Seattle, and Boston.

The cities were ranked based on satisfaction score from a 5-point scale.
The categories were "employee satisfaction, number of employers hiring, business outlook, career opportunities, and compensation and benefits over the past 12 months." All surveys were "according to local employee feedback," according to the site...

Per usual, they use an outdated photo...

I really don't like how this design exposes the unfinished side of the historic sandstone building next door. I feel the more this building is exposed, the less it will be preserved.

This is exciting news! Finally, another part of the initial City Creek Center proposal is getting started. Tower 8 is the only part left. I tried looking up info on the web and found nothing. Any info related to it, was way outdated, including Cowboy Partners own website. I did try contacting them. Hopefully, I'll hear back from them soon. I hope that it is going to be a midrise (8 to 12 stories), but it could very well be a podium 5 to 7 stories. Those seem to be the most economical these days. That's the tallest you can go with a wood frame over a 1 to 2 story concrete base.

I wonder if Boyer has anything to do with this. They are doing all that work on the adjacent blocks. Maybe they took it over from Cowboy.

Update: I called Cowboy and the receptionist and the person she asked said that they haven't started the project. But, you know how informed receptionists are, right?

update 2: I called Boyer company, and one of their project managers gave me some info. From what he knows is that the Cowboy Partners site is actually owned by CCRI/LDS church as part of the City Creek Center development. He's not completely sure, but there is no actual excavation going on, but piling up of dirt from another project. They are using that site for staging of equipment, and have fenced it off. He believed they have done that as a temporary way to use that site, because the city will not allow them to do surface parking on that site. He also said that Boyer has an agreement with Cowboy with the housing project that will be built on 200 East. Cowboy is developing the housing project, but the overall land is owned and being developed by Boyer along with their other projects in that immediate area.
