Sonysnob has posted some pictures of the highway 69 twinning south of Sudbury. This will eventually allow for the 400 to run all the way up to Sudbury.

Was there any northern Ontario highway mentions in the last Ontario budget? I know all three leaders were silent about it (and northern issues as a whole).

There was the $1 billion "Ring of Fire" fund, as well as major highway expansion in the North.

One day, The province of Québec will find the recipe to make good roads...

Meanwhile, I've found some cracks on a repaved expressway 2 years ago ... shame on ...

probably not until the early 2020's. That portion (21km) opens in early 2016, the next portion (14km) opens in 2017. After that the work ramps up to close the last 65km gap with it all finishing up probably in 2021 or 2022.

So its been officially postponed from the supposed 2017 completion date? Its been obvious for years now that '17 is way too optimistic, but I thought the government was still insistent that 2017 is the year.

unless they issue the contract for the next 65km tomorrow, no, its not 2017.

I think there were some issues with aboriginal relations that have delayed the last bit.

I've never driven it, but I have seen some pictures of the recently twinned portion of Highway 175 in Quebec, and that looks pretty good.

Out of curiosity, what's cell phone coverage like on Highway 17 through Northern Ontario? I know that in 2008 almost the whole stretch from Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay was a huge dead zone, but there's been big improvements to rural cell reception in Canada in recent years, have things gotten better up there?

If you have Rogers, you'll have service along the Trans-Canada most of the time. The only service gaps are in the non-populated areas.

If you're with anyone other than TBayTel/Rogers, you'll only get service in Thunder Bay and the centres of some of the towns, and it's not very reliable. If you're with Rogers and need in-person customer service, go to TBayTel. They have stores all over the place between Wawa and Kenora.

Notice how there is only one lane on the bridges in the circle. The cops always have photo radar vans on those bridges. I can't wait for another lane to be added.

Took today off and drove from Calgary to the Columbia Icefield along AB 93 (Icefields Parkway). This shot is taken from the top of the very long switchback south of the Icefields Centre. A beautiful drive that I highly recommend.

I'm sorry to have to say this but it happens so much and it drives me crazy : Could people who post pictures of particular places please state where they are ? I know that a lot of you think we all know where it is but unless we live in the particular area being pictured most of us probably have no clue.
