Wow! How exciting! You say "was", is this project dead? If so, what a shame!

As far as we know, it was never a totally serious proposal. More kinda just them saying "this is what we could build here. Though they did push the idea of a large casino.

It was part of the Ontario Liberals' now-largely-failed initiative to dramatically expand the OLG casino empire in Ontario to boost government revenue. That plan failed when local opposition to casino projects (especially in Toronto--the city refused to allow the casino, and while it is possible for the province to override municipal decisions, that's very much a political nonstarter) made it very unpopular. Kathleen Wynne largely killed it when taking office, but some of it is moving forward nonetheless.

Some great news from Kingston. The Kingston Express, our BRT-lite system, is going through a major expansion next year with two new routes, plus further improvements to local routes. The pace of transit improvement in this city is phenomenal thanks to a generous municipality, the city has increased its operational funding to Kingston Transit by 35% since 2011.

Too bad Oxford Place died. I really loved that proposal. And a casino in downtown OT would be insanely profitable. Too bad City Hall got so greedy, rejecting the Province's 60 million a year casino payout to TO because it wasn't enough.

Well it's not dead, they have put out a bid/competition proposal for the project, and it was just posted in the top 50 thread. Looks like we could see new material regarding it by the winter.

"An architect will be secured from an invited list late 2014/early 2015 to complete design and working drawings."

The office portion alone is going to be 2.5 million square feet, which is actually enough space for two - 70/75 floor office towers.

They are proposing density of that much, doesn't mean they will use it all.

Here are a couple of renders of Calgary's newest extension station, Tuscany Station, that I don't think have been shared before. It will be Calgary's first rapid transit station outside of the boundaries of the ring road, and the last extension of the Northwest Line, as it goes to the edge of city limits. No further suburban development will happen beyond Tuscany for the forseeable future.

This is part of Kingston Transit's improvement plan, which is set to dramatically improve transit service levels throughout the city.

The plan is to have buses as frequent as every 7 minutes on key corridors during rush hours, when the plan is fully implemented.

It gets even better than that for some trips. The maximum possible wait time for a bus between Cataraqui Centre and Brock&Bagot (the two main local route hubs), will be 5 minutes, all day long, starting in July 2015.

Transit in Kingston is phenomenal considering the city's size, and what's crazy is its on track to become significantly better than it already is next year!

Ontario has elected a Liberal majority government. Bring on the billions for transit, Premier Kathleen Wynne will reintroduce the budget.

Edit: wow, a little too excited here. Time for a drink

She was as much democratically elected this time as she was last time.

In both cases she was elected by the people of her riding and to the position of leader by her party. I do get what you mean, but that she wasn't already democratically elected isn't correct either.

She was the first openly gay leader to lead her party to election. There, a more technically correct version.

This thread will get a whole lot busier over the next few years because of tonight though, that much is for sure. Ottawa and Kitchener are both going to be getting major improvements as well.

There are 3 Liberal-held seats where the Confederation Line runs through that the PCs were expected to win (or at least come close), but the Liberals won all 3, by big margins, too. Ottawa-Orleans, containing the projected eastern terminus of the Confederation Line, went Liberal by over 10,000 votes.

Hudak's cold attitude towards transit funding for Ottawa may have played a part in Wynne's majority.

An elected gay premier... such a huge step. You should have seen Wynne's victory speech Chad, Wynne brought up her wife on stage and they embraced each other in front of the entire province! As a gay man myself it feels so huge, that a politician can bring her same-sex spouse up on stage with her when she wins, just like any other politician, and nobody criticizes her for it. We've come a long way as a society.

The front page of the Ottawa Citizen right now: Kathleen and her wife!

That is awesome. I'll find it on youtube tomorrow. It is absolutely amazing how far we have come.. unbelievable actually. Growing up in the semi-rural south (Woodstock On) and being attacked for being gay and threatened and shit... that kind of fucked up shit doesn't even happen there anymore. Things have changed so much, it is so amazing to see. Did you know that the president of Luxembourg is gay? He was elected last year, the first elected gay man in modern history. Small country, huge step!

Oh jesus relax, you know what I meant! She wasn't elected as the premier originally, she was sworn in when whatshisface resigned... McGuinty.
