The data clearly shows that most crime happens in suburban neighbourhoods. If you live in a surburban neighbourhood, you are more likely to be surrounded by crime, including sexual assaults, homicides, residential break ins, robberies, theft, theft from vehicles, and arson.

My question to those living in suburban neighbourhoods - how do you sleep at night? Shesh, those crime stats just give me the shivers. I would need a few dozen locks on my doors and a mile high fence. It's a kind of environment where one might tend to develop severe paranoia. No way to live, if you ask me.

And to think, even with most of crime in Calgary occurring in suburban neighbourhoods, most of the police presence and enforcement occurs in the inner city and downtown core. Not sure how suburbanites sleep at night, not knowing who your neighbours are and knowing the police aren't around to protect you. Shudder at the thought

Okay, while you and suburbia have your e-penis whipping contest, I slept very well last night in my mid-50's community (very much lacking in density) what with only 1 incident in the last month per geotag277's provided CPS link. Maybe it's because I know almost all of the neighbours on my block and plenty in my community as well.

Oh well, back to your contest.

Don't take it too seriously, I am simply poking fun at suburbia's obvious paranoia problems and constant misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the facts around all the news stories he posts.

It's an obvious advantage of high density living that there are more eyes on and within the community and therefore more chance for people to see and report suspicious behaviour. My neighbours call and report prostitution, your neighbour drives to the downtown core to rendezvous with prostitutes (and perhaps worse) then drives back to his quiet suburban compound and no one knows what's really going on. You never really know who your neighbours really are behind those picket fences, don't get a false sense of security.

Interestingly enough, the same could be said of any condo/apartment building - that is you probably don't know many past a few doors down from your own. Even invisible picket fences don't provide more security.

In case I wasn't abundantly clear with the thread title (I figured the cage match metaphor was obvious), I started this thread as a complete joke. A place for the latte lifters to make jokes about fat suburbanites who never talk to their neighbours because their garage is full of junk, and... well as it turns out a place for suburbia to rant about prostitutes hanging out in low income areas all while ignoring the fact that people like him who think prostitution is a dirty problem that needs to be hidden from view is precisely WHY they're there in the first place.

Much like the Canada forum (which removes all of the drive-by "omg Calgary stfu, you're so full of yourself" from our regular threads), please just ignore this if you don't quite get the point.

My comment was directed at suburbia's paranoia, but just between us, people are generally good, and having an intense sense of paranoia about your neighbours is no way to live, either in the suburbs or in urban areas. Live in the manner you want to live and be happy, that's all that matters
