I think it'll be a minute before we see the tower crane go up as they have to finish the excavation, tie the caissons together and do the mat pour. There needs to be something solid to install the crane base on.

Perhaps this was written by mistake?

"At 493 feet, the Wolf Point West Tower will rise 48 stories and will be situated on Wolf Point at the convergence of the north, south, and main branches of the Chicago River. Where once stood Chicago’s first general store in the late 1820s, this 570,000 sf luxury condominium structure will feature unrivaled views of the skyline, river and Lake Michigan..."

Also, anyone know if the 50 floors/525' listed on SSP the most recent height/floor count for the west tower? It's listed differently almost everywhere I see it

Unrivaled views of Lake Michigan huh? From there? Until the south tower is built.

^^^ I did here of the shortened heght, I think someone a while back said it was for an increased heght of the South tower.

Any floorplans/pricing available for this?
Wonder if it is proper condos, or poorly laid out cookie cutter crap with a frosting of granite and stainless, and too many units per floor, like the recent apartment buildings that have finished.

I assume McHugh knows what it is building. 570K sq. ft. building structure. 510 luxury condo units. Deduct an amount for hallways and elevators and amenities. Do the math for the average sq. ft. of the luxury condo units.

But, the decision to go condo is maybe wise. The rental residential market will be quite saturated by the time this one is ready. The great Lake views (along with awkward accessability from Orleans Street) will remain until the signature South Tower starts - with an announcement just after the West Tower sells out. lol!

Question. Is the tower crane they are setting up sighted so that it could do both this tower and the south tower next? If so, do you think they will just move straight into building the south tower once this one is done....economy permitting? Or is this just wishful thinking on my part for the south tower to get built as soon as possible.

Not a chance for two reasons. The first being that a tower crane needs to be tied to something beyond a certain height. This means this crane will be tied into this building in order to reach top out. If they were to try to use this crane to help construct a neighboring tower that would mean they can't finish this tower (and remove the crane anchors) until the other tower is done using this crane.

The other reason is that there is no way this crane's radius covers the entire South tower site. Also, cranes get increasingly lower load bearing capacity the further out in their radius you go, so even if it did cover the entire site, there would be certain parts of the building that it could only deliver relatively tiny loads to. I don't think I've ever seen a tower crane shared between two separate towers before. The South Tower might even be large enough (or is this a function of steel frame construction?) to require two cranes for it's construction like River Point and 150 N Riverside will both probably have.
