The first $1,000,000 is the toughest. After that, live frugally and you can do whatever you want that is legal- of course the definition of "legal" changes in direct proportion to who money can buy. Consequently, with $1,000,000 and frugal living you will not influence anything, but you have your freedom.
Of course, when you get $1,000,000 and you are young, you like the idea of being worth $10,000,000. Now you can buy a nice 3 bedroom condo at a ski area within 500 meters of chairlift #1 (minimum down, and, put enough in a dedicated account to cover payments for a couple of years), a nice single family residence, and, an urban condo.
But, you are stuck with a problem: with $10,000,000 in "assets" you need political influence in order to bend "procedures" in order to participate in a big real estate or resource mineral play, as that $100,000,000 is reachable, and, you always had a secret desire for a moderately priced 80 foot ocean going yacht. However, you realize that there is far bigger money behind the lucrative real estate and resource plays, so you have to be content with profits made after the "first sale," i.e., you make you money after the hugely wealthy make theirs, by either developing an "asset" yourself or participating in some kind of pool.
By the time you get your first $100 million, you understand that the best fun is to make huge amounts of quick money competing with other very wealthy people. You have been yachting with other peers, having private galas with politicians, etc., but, now you know you can be "Kingfish" with your first billion.
But just one billion in assets makes you small fry in the world of political influence, so you need more....
Moral? Keep doing what you are doing, and, learn from it. You are building a great resume, which I have no doubt, at the right time will pay off for you.
Besides we like what you do.
