Still happening. I talked to the manager recently and she gave me the timeline but I can't remember it.

They will continue operating during construction - they are building the new store on the north end of the property (referred to as the third parking lot) and a new lot will be built where the present building is located.

Dang! Is there a reason why its being demolished as opposed to renovations. Is it a old building? And was'nt it renovated not long ago. I seem to remember them spending a fortune on the wood for the bar alone.

That Earls was built in 1994.

In that Free Press article, they claim the building is not very "environmental", and they will save money/energy in the long run by constructing a new building. Is it "environmental" to tear down a perfectly good building and send it to the landfill?

I'm also not a fan of a new parking lot right at the corner of St. Mary and Main, a key gateway to the Forks.

I was in the city last week. Hit up a couple different restaurants.

Falafel Place on Corydon was tasty and kind of offbeat, plus they have fresh squeezed orange juice.
Fitzroy on Sherbrooke was great, I had the beef tongue which was unappetizing at first because I grew up on a farm. I don't know what I was thinking, but when I got the meal all I could picture were cows licking their noses and staring at me with their dull eyes. The menu there is changed daily according to our waitress, it's changed to reflect whatever product is in stock.
Went to Saffrons on Corydon again and wasn't really blown away by the meal (I forget what it was, a pita I think?) but our server also works at Prairie 360 and I remember he served us.
Prairie 360 is pretty cool! Really disorienting at first, but that just makes the alcohol more effective so you don't need to buy as much booze.

Went to a couple bars in the Exchange, one was Kingshead and I forget the other one. It was near Deer & Almond. I didn't care much for either, kind of douchey and intimidating.

Anyone been to the Harvey's on Portage? The service is NUTS. Always have a blast going there.

A friend of mine recommends Blondie's on Main. I'll check it out next time I'm in the city.

edit: I really should say I wanted to go to the revolving restaurant my ENTIRE LIFE so I was pretty stoked when I got in. The access is crap, I did valet parking at the hotel and had to walk around the block to the ugly doors behind the parkade. If they want to market themselves as a real upscale restaurant they'll need better connectivity to the front doors of the hotel. Or at least get the glass elevator up and running because until you get to the Whiskey Lounge it's pretty blah. Decor is very Manitoban and high end. Service is knowledgable and refined. For dinner I had bison perogies and they were full flavoured and very filling, and the dough was wonderful. The view is the real selling point for me and it didn't disappoint. I'd highly recommend Prairie 360 to anyone who hasn't gone.

I wouldn't bother. The food there is mediocre and the only draw seems to be people who want to be abused by Cruella de Vil.

^ Second that. Unless the thought of getting bland meatloaf on a bun from a surly person is something you find appealing, give Blondie's a wide berth. There are many other places for burgers in this city that are far better.

Yeah ditch the idea of Blondie's. For a great burger try Mrs. Mike's.

Blondie's isn't the best burger - but it is kind of one of those places to experience - at least once.

And if portion sizes are your thing - it can't be beat.

I would still recommend going. Don't expect the best burger, but if you get the 1/4 pound burger you will be satisfied.

Best burger in the city (IMO) and Kathy and Steve are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

I went there shortly after it opened. The people working there were really extremely friendly. Like way too friendly to be working at a fast food place. I found it disconcerning cause it seemed like genuinely friendly not fake friendly.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet in this thread. There's a sign on the old Dylan O'Connors on Portage Ave advertising a Pump House is coming soon. Is this is chain from out West? Any good?

The sign says St. James Pump House. They have a page on Facebook and a website template online. It appears that they are planning an opening for late June. It doesn't appear to be an affiliate of the other chain as there is no reference to it. The Facebook page seems to imply it is more about beer and music than food, but we will have to wait and see.

The old KFC on Pembina HWY north of McGil is under going construction. Any idea whats going in there? I cant recall how long it's been closed. Right next door is a Subway that used to be an Arby's. I was choked when Arby's closed.

Been to Tony Roma's twice in the past month and very disappointed both times. Going downhill.

Same with Chop, to be honest.

Tony Roma's on St. James is garbage. If you go to the one on Regent or Pembina it is far better (still not the greatest, but better).

And I saw on Facebook that the restaurant in Kildonan Park will be opening on June 6th. I can't remember the name, but it's a WOW hospality group dig, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

I've heard a rumour that Joeys is going to take over Earls on Main and a new Earls will be built beside it.

noticed that Subway in the Exchange relocated from beside the Public Safety Building to 123 Princess....they have a really nice space.
