And yes, "at" vs. "on" makes a difference, notice what The Regent is called on its own website. Words mean something. I could continue to explain why but it is clear that y'all are going to take whatever view point you so choose and thus explaining is a waste of typing. So we can carry on and not bother about something that is a moot point anyway as it is over and done with.
Once again city creek is not a brand-name.. Is the name of the geographical feature.. Just because the LDS church chose to include the name of that geographical feature in the name of their shopping center does not mean that they own it.

So is there going to be confusion about who owns and operates city Creek Canyon??

The truth is that nobody cares who Seasons is owned and operated by.. People are not stupid they know that city creek is not a company... Most people are smart enough to conclude that it's just a name.. Most people know who it's owned by.. The only people who need to concern themselves with who owns the seasons are the people who live here or the people who are considering living here and it's made very clear who owns and operates this place.. To those people.. Nobody else cares.. And even if they did.. Tough 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵.. The LDS church does not own the term City creek and there is no way that you can argue that they do.

Was City Creek taken out of anyone's name? No. City Creek is still in the name of your beloved apartment complex. No one took City Creek out of their name and no one is claiming ownership to that name, it was changed from "at" to "on the."

But honestly, let it go, I am fine with you being annoyed that your apartment complex decided to change their name, you can even be annoyed with me for agreeing that was a wise decision for your apartment complex to make, but there is really no point in a further discussion on it.

Most of the druggies don't venture passed the bus stop in front of Crown Burger.. I have seen a few of them stumbling of the street though.. One night some drunk dude hit a tree across the street and tried to ditch his car in the parking lot...

I like living here well enough.. But beloved would be a little bit over-the-top...

The fact that they change their name does not annoying me in the slightest.... What annoys me is ridiculous fraudulent lawsuits.. And this is merely one example. I also agree that it was a wise decision.. Because the LDS church is a multibillion dollar operation.. They can afford more lawyers :-)

And I'm not trying to bash the LDS church in fact I regularly defended them on here.. I just feel that this was a really distasteful thing of them to do.. And I think that this type of ridiculous lawsuit is making everybody so afraid that nobody can do anything anymore.. We can't even have a decent playground in the park anymore... I'm glad I was a kid in the 80s and not now.

Your correct.. on and at the do have different meanings.. For example I'm on North Temple.. Or I'm at Library Square... But regardless of what those words mean.. It legally does not mean anything to the LDS church nor is it any of their business... Why.. Because it's not called the Seasons At / on City creek center.. Is that so hard to understand.

Who cares if people know city creek center as city creek.. That's the LDS churches fault for choosing a long 🞵🞵🞵 name that nobody wants to say.. If it was to be known as city creek then why didn't they just call it city creek.. I'll tell you why.. City Creek cannot be trademarked... Nor can the LDS church pretend that they have a trademark on that name.. City Creek is open Game anybody can use it.. And the church is just going to have to live with it because it's not theirs.. they don't own it... And they can't buy it.. They can only scare people with a legal expenses.. And eventually they will try to scare somebody that would rather make a point...

(deleted sarcastic comment, people take stuff too seriously)

I don't even think they changed their name?

But if they did, I actually agree with ajiuO here - they have no real grounds to trademark something like City Creek because City Creek is an actual thing beyond the retail center named after the creek.

A quick search of the Yellow Pages shows there are dozens of businesses named after City Creek (here's a few):

City Creek Internal Medicine
City Creek Law Group
City Creek Antiques
City Creek Reserve Inc
City Creek Hearing Center
City Creek Lock
City Creek Coin Laundry
City Creek Realty
City Creek Construction
City Creek Irrigation & Landscape
City Creek Property Management (not for City Creek Mall)

Most those businesses aren't anywhere near City Creek. Most have been around long before City Creek Center was even established. There would be no legal merit to force 'em to change their name.

I believe I did watch that. I love it. I know this is not a popular opinion, but this is what I love about city life. It adds an air of excitement to things.

When I was a kid growing up in a very shady Salt Lake neighborhood, I remember sitting at my window at night and just looking out at all the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 that went down - from fights to drug deals to 🞵🞵🞵. It was really interesting and exciting.

As long as City Creek the geographical feature is being discussed, I'd like to pick a nit about the fact that it no longer exists in most areas. The park the city built through City Creek Canyon is awesome and then it it routed under North Temple and the fake creeks at the mall and conference center. All over the SLC the creeks were filled and pipes and culverts installed instead of bridges and embracing the riparian areas. A real creek through downtown would be an awesome asset for downtown. Same with Red Butte Creek, Emmigration, Millcreek, Cherry Creek paved over and culverted.

I like a lot what they've done with City Creek along the curbs and through the City Creek Center. I agree with you though Brankrom. Too bad that people back at that time just didn't feel or see the vision embracing the creek as a future valuable asset. Of course, back then it was all about being utilitarian and "taming" when it came to natural resources.

I often wonder what it would be like to divert the Jordan River through a designated area of Downtown. It could be diverted by culvert from a specific point of closest Jordan River origin, and wrap through a few blocks of the more underdeveloped parts of West Downtown. This could be done in a variety of attractively designed paths. Then, at a particular point it would empty into a lovely lake and park setting. At the opposite point of entry at the lake, a culvert would carry the water back to it's original area of departure along the natural Jordan River, thus not eliminating valuable existing Jordan River flow. Perhaps, even a beautiful little lake could be created at the Peace Gardens, from which the culverts would exit and enter. This would give all three, The Jordan, West Downtown, and the International Peace Gardens an incredible enhancement. Oh well, one can dream...

The name change did take place and it was very early on.. It took a little while for them to change all their email signatures and wording on lease agreements and stuff..

Even if you look at the original ad put on the LDS business College website (interestingly enough). They even have it listed as season's at City Creek.. As do a few other websites floating around still.

https://www.ldsbc.edu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=282&Itemid=444

If you go back even further and look at the renderings.. The sign says "city Creek Apartments". I wish they would have turned out like the renderings because they look much nicer :/

It might be difficult to divert the Jordan River into downtown Salt Lake. It is at a lower elevation.. It's also not the cleanest water out there although it's a lot better than it used to be.

I think that something similar could be done with city creek however.. Perhaps it would be interesting to have city creek running down the middle of 200 south and empty into a lake behind the Rio Grande depot somewhere.. It could really help the redevelopment of both the Rio Grande area and second south.. And would be a particularly nice feature for the convention center hotel which sounds like it might be going on the Shilo inn site.. Or even if RWP is chosen.

City Creek @ 400 west & N Temple. I also find it interesting how the overpass originally started at fourth West and had trains going over it just as it does now!!

City Creek aqueduct @ 200 west & N Temple.. Brick apartment building is still there right next to the future home of the seasons.

Everyone, the discussion regarding the prison and 🞵🞵🞵
has been moved to the "Mountain West Microbrew: Chit chat and irrelevancy" thread.

Thanks

Yeah, the Jordan River couldn't be diverted into Downtown because of the elevation and there's still a "smell" associated with the Jordan that City Creek doesn't have. Just seems like a shame that City Creek was diverted and hidden. Ogden on the other hand has started to embrace the Ogden River. Sometimes there's no going back sometimes.

There has been numerous plans to daylight City Creek. When the City sold the TRAX-North Temple Overpass, part of their pitch was to daylight the river from the overpass to Jordan River. They came back and said that it was not possible. Part of the reason that makes it difficult is that the elevation change from around Main Street to the Jordan River is relatively flat.

What is the "smell" that is associated with the Jordan River? If there is such a smell, it's probably due to the fact that it is an unhealthy river. But I haven't noticed it.

I ride along the Jordan River trail often, and have never noticed a smell either.

Between main and 400W is definitely not flat.. In fact I just posted a photo of city creek flowing down north temple @ 400 w

I noticed as I was driving by the new Ballet West Academy yesterday that they have already installed some very intricate molding on the 1st floor. Also, there have been a lot of concrete pours at the site of the new Marriott by ESA in the last week or so.

When I lived in Westside Murray growing up(80's-early 90's), it was pretty bad.. This was before they created the trail and maintained it. Garbage, pollution, sewage and dead animals were somewhat common. Dead people were also tossed in once and awhile. It was a might rank.
