I wonder what they are going to do with it. The people that bought it from MPI I don't think did any renovations so it still looks like a typical govt building on the inside.

I heard that there were some problems with the building and that the RCMP next door looked at it, but concluded that it was going to be too costly to renovate. Too bad, because they could use the space and the parking.

They did rent a number of parking stalls from MPI though if I remember correctly.

As for buying the building I think it may have come down to a budget issue as they had approached MPI from what I had heard about renting space there when MPI was moving DVL departments to City Place.

Aren't we actively trying to get rid of segregation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic on Main Street (for instance, at Main/Portage)?

I would say that P&M and this corner are two completely different examples. I was suggesting connecting one park with another park/tourist area with a crossover. It's not like there are any storefronts or "urban fabric" at all on this corner. Plus assiniboine ave is a bike route/walking route so I think something like this would be beneficial to pedestrians and cyclists, and obviously car traffic.

In the end I don't really care, but having a pedestrian-controlled push-button crosswalk there isn't exactly ideal.
