It certainly is. Even the WTC construction, original or current, wasn't quite on this scale of change. The best part is we get to witness it.

Subway 7 extension opening delayed.

Another major project, the extension of the No. 7 train to 34th Street and 11th Avenue, will also have a wait. Though officials had said in recent months that the new station would open in June, Michael Horodniceanu, the authority’s president of capital construction, said on Monday that the opening would be delayed “probably about three months,” in part because of complications in the installation of an inclined elevator

Stephen Ross’ West Side Story

By Gus Delaporte

You’ve secured a number of high-profile office tenants for the Hudson Yards development. Do you feel a sense of accomplishment or even vindication?

I always believed what I was saying, and I believed that we were able to communicate our vision of where the city was going. With these tenants signing on and the mixed-use nature of the project, the project has expanded. We have another residential building under construction, and we hope to start 55 Hudson Yards, which is another 1.35-million-square-foot building. We are negotiating with several tenants for that.

Should they be thinking about filling in the empty space on the other towers first?

No, because not every tenant will be right for every building. All available options must be considered. For example, firms that may take space in the smaller building may not necessarily find the space right at 30 Hudson.

Among the two new projects added to the Hudson Yards plan is the redesign of the 47-story tower at 1 Hudson Boulevard, which would be primarily an office building for law firms, Cross said.

Looks like the street and HY area will have to be elevated.

.....Samuelian specifically highlighted 55 Hudson Yards, a 51-story building which is planned for along 11th Avenue, noting its placement just steps away from the forthcoming entrance to the Number 7 subway extension (along with the bottom portion of the city-funded Hudson Park and Boulevard, another new green space which is set to open by the end of this year).

Referencing the building’s smaller size — at 710 feet tall, a good deal shorter than 10 Hudson Yards — Samuelian jokingly called 55 Hudson Yards “our boutique building,” and said Related will be focused on attracting a tenant base there that will be quite different than the massive companies moving into the two towers below West 33rd Street. “It’s really going to be targeting law firms and financial firms,” he said. “In particular, the building is really suited to law firms because of its narrower floor plans, which fit with their more traditional approach to office space.”

Was the design recently changed and it's now the building to the left of the cylinder in this pic, if so I absolutely love it and am not upset by the height decrease

I think the crown makes the building stand out a bit

It hasn't really changed, that's the design that's been there since the renderings first came out. The model is what's always been in question.

Don't know what's going on here, but my guess is that it will be revised once they move forward...Related probably hasn't completed the transactions necessary to build up to full size, but gets the process started for construction.

Related files plans for Hudson Yards office tower
Building with 393,000 square feet to rise on former Extell site

March 07, 2014

Quote:
Stephen Ross’ the Related Companies has applied for permits for 550 West 34th Street, a planned commercial tower in the Hudson Yards district, according to property records filed with the city late last month.

According to Department of Buildings permits filed February 24 and seen by TRD, the 392,899-square-foot building at 550-570 West 34th Street is being designed by architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, which is also the master planner behind the entire Hudson Yards megaproject.

The move comes on the heels of a deal that Related did in June with Gary Barnett’s Extell Development, which owned the site since at least 2007, according to city records. As part of the transaction, Related paid Extell $168 million for the site, and also agreed to give Extell a site it owns with Boston Properties on Eighth Avenue and West 45th Street, ending a tense standoff between two of the city’s biggest developers.

Gosh I hope that's the case, this thing has had enough height decreases. I think it and it's design work well with the other buildings at 710' though

The building itself will contain roughly 4 times the space listed on that permit, but there is a process for getting there. I still can't remember exactly why Barnett was going to be able to build an even larger tower there, but it'll come to me.

The Economic Development Corporation’s Kimball said the city is in need of more modular, flexible office space with smaller floor plans and operators willing to take a two-year lease rather than a five-year lease.

Related’s Samuelian interjected that that strategy would not be compatible with Hudson Yards, which boasts 4.5 million square feet of already leased office space.

Last month, Related applied for permits for 550 West 34th Street, a planned office tower in the district, as previously reported.

“Almost every deal we’ve lost is due to someone wanting to just stay in place,” said Samuelian, who likened Time Warner’s relocation deal to a “game of Hopscotch.”

Looks nice. It makes for a good contrast with all of the other glass towers. I can't wait to go to New York once all of this is done,
