I'd guess east of James, because Barton dips down quite a bit at Bay and looks to me that you can see quite a ways down Barton that if it were looking west, we'd see some indication of the dip.

Still, nothing is familiar to me, and I can't make out the sign on the front of the street car even when I zoom in.

Incidentally, must have been some sort of occasion that day. It looks to be summer, so it's not Victoria Day. Perhaps Dominion Day. No flags, though. Circus? Public hanging?

It's a cow catcher, just like old trains used to have. But in this case it was probably more for human safety.

I didn't know Stelco had that enormous sign, and it would have been really neat to see.

Does anyone know about it? What kind of lighting it was? (looks like neon but could just be lights blending together from the distance; kind of big for a neon sign too) When was it taken down?

It's a shame all those fountains are gone. I love the old horse-human-dog water fountains that used to dot the city.

I just loved water fountains of any sort. It can be incredibly difficult to find working ones now. I can only list off less than a dozen across the entire city and you'll be lucky if more than half of them are working.

"....everything you see if this photograph has vanished - from the fencing, to the Belt Line to the houses to the right. The date on the photograph is incorrect, but this vintage photograph shows Barton Street looking east from Ottawa. That fencing to the left hides the Hamilton Jockey Club which was on the site - a site that was later converted to the Greater Hamilton Shopping Centre."
