To put that into perspective, here's the Wells Fargo Center in SLC compared to the Wells Fargo Center in Denver (which is 705 feet):

There is a clear difference - but not nearly as significant as your picture implies.

But I do agree with you - there is little chance it'll be 700 feet, anyway.

Not Kevin but rather Ken. I have seen him referred to Ken in the Denver threads as well as his signature.

It's okay though as I think you probably read it really quick.

Agreed, Comrade. Orlando's pic was of a 850 foot building.

Also ( using Orlando's pic ) from that view if you look at both Key Bank Tower and 99 West it would seem that Key Bank's taller, however 99 West is taller.

By the way, thanks Orlando for those photo skyline shots. ( really liked the black and white one with all future towers included )
It's fun to guess what SLCs skyline could look like by 2020.

I took the photo, but credit goes to Orlando for the extra towers.

700' would be like adding the regent to wells fargo. It wouldn't feel too out of place.

It'd still stand out, obviously, but not at the extent you're showing.
It's only a block further away in distance, Main to West Temple, and it's a block further north so it's a little higher in elevation to start, so it could look nearly twice the height, mostly depending on the elevation change, not the distance from the point of view.

The elevation of the Wells Fargo Center is 4285.297 feet the Shilo is 4290.357 feet. Hard to imagine the elevation playing that much of a role. To contrast, the COB is at 4349.509 feet.

I maintain that tower would be at least 800 feet at that size.

Okay, Comrade. Considering that Wells Fargo is 422 feet, I've shortened it a bit. The purple line indicates my best guess at where Main Street/base of the those towers there. Either way, this sticks out like a very sore thumb in the skyline, and even more so on West Temple, where most of the buildings on that side of the street are low-rise. Yes, I know what you're going to say Delts.

Yeah I like it, too. But I still think the probability is pretty slim.

This is the same sore thumb difference as when the COB was built in 71?
Almost exactly. I think it looks great as is, although much taller and it would start to stick out a lot. Add the 46 story Zephyrrise and you've got South end
rising like a Phoenix...pun not intended, bad simile. Oh, and the Air7.
It would be cool if W.Temple could attract the next few high rises in town.
You know we're really only a one street pony. Okay, maybe two. Not Derby ready.
So let's hear the gallery pinpoint exactly where on W. Temple this could happen. Feel free to use a map. Have fun.

Has anyone heard of the Camden Development? It was listed as one of the sites for UPAC back in 2008. Apparently, it was a proposed development between 1st & 2nd south and 5th & 6th west.

I personally don't want a 700 foot building in SLC, but from that view it doesn't stick out so much that it's a terrible thing. I just don't want a wall of skyscrapers, someday, blocking the view of the mountains from the freeway.

This is the Air Hotel that was mentioned here by the developer. It's interesting, though, that ABC4 got the news from this forum, which they mentioned, but not by name.

14-story hotel planned for downtown SLC

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Downtown Salt Lake City will soon be home to a new, swanky hotel.

The modern-style boutique hotel is still in the design phase, but downtown leaders say once completed it could transform nightlife in the area.

In an online forum developer Ken Bretschneider writes, "We decided that there was plenty of office space in the downtown core and that a fresh new hotel with location based entertainment was something SLC really needed."

Currently, there is a block-long apartment building going in there on the backside of the Gateway. Perhaps, a developer wanted to incorporate UPAC into its development on that block.

Oh wow.. While the plaza is my favorite site.. I might be ok with the shilo though.. As long as it's not RWP.. I'm good!! :-)

A few points:
- There is more space to be had at the Shilo site then some like us to believe. There is the Shilo tower, The Shilo parking structure south of the tower, and quite a lot of space across Pierpoint Avenue. Pierpoint Avenue could either be bridged over, redirected to make a right angle and go towards either second or third south, or simply terminate midblock.
- The new space needs to be continuous with itself not continuous with the existing space of the Salt Palace.
- Having a sky bridge across second South might not actually be a bad thing. It would help to isolate the view of lower second south... But an underground tunnel would also be an option.

Messing with Pierpont in any way is a terrible idea. It's one of the few charming streets we have in SLC. They could easily put parking across Pierpont by the Peery and use most of the Shilo site for continuous space. The view down 2nd South might not be stellar, but putting a skybridge over it would only further isolate that end of town and continue the enormous wall from the convention center. They should build a tunnel now before streetcar tracks are installed on that road.

Are we looking at the same picture? I think it sticks out in the very way I'd want it too. Right now, all of our buildings hover around similar heights, and they are all super wide and squat. Our current skyline looks like I put a bunch of cereal boxes on two ends of my kitchen table, with a couple boxes of crackers in the middle.

We need this kind of variation.

Agreed with all of this. Except, I would mess with pierpont by extending it, so it connected with pierpont to the west. There are only a few buildings that would need to be razed in order to make this happen (and no, Red Rock is not one of them). Some pedestrian tunnels with art and food carts under 200 and 300 W would be awesome connectors as well. SLC only has so many possibilities to create areas of charm and pedestrian superiority, and the pierpont district is one of them. It should be cherished and enhanced, not degraded.

If Pierpont was a continuous unique district right behind the new convention center, it would inspire visitors to actually walk to the now neglected Gateway district, so they could spread their dollars around the city, instead of just furthering the isolating effect that the Salt Palace has had on our city.

For starters, whatever part of the development ends up facing pierpont needs to engage it, and not neglect it like the Shilo garage did. As has already been discussed on here many times, garages can function as more than just garages, they can have retail, etc., and there driveways don't have to be positioned to obstruct or deter pedestrian traffic (which would be pierpont, when a driveway could easily go mid block W Temple).
