Ooh! Look at Ottawa's new urban village! So welcoming!

These residents are going to LOVE the hundred thousand + festival goers drunkenly walking right by their windows on their way across the footbridge after Bluesfest every summer. The tunnel effect should make the noise nice and loud and exciting!

I like the greyish brick. However, That blank windowless section is a bit odd though

And man this thing moves slow. I remember talks about starting lebreton back in high school (1999)!

I actually don't mind the colour that much either. I am colour blind though so... haha.

There is more to be built and I am guessing that blank brick wall will not be as visible once the whole thing is up. But yes, this whole thing is painfully slow and on the whole, brutally underwhelming. I am hoping nearby plans by Windmill for the islands will put pressure on Claridge to build faster and maybe better? Competition is never a bad thing.

Let me tell ya, you're not missing anything in Ottawa!!! Or should I say, you're seeing it exactly as it is; black, white and grey! And thank God you can't see the colour of LB phase I and II.

I went by this weekend and took a real close look at the brick: It's a dark brown with grey grout. The brick is actually quite nice - it almost looks like a heritage brick.

I noticed today they are building between the two towers...I didn't realize this until now. This will make the development look a LOT better.

It's sort of... coming along... With time there's going to be a nice bunch of people living there. Will only need to bring retail in.

I think I preferred yellow, and that's not saying much (obviously). It's like they put up the rest of the yellow on Tribeca II and now they have excess black brick.

I believe it's stacked townhomes being built between the 2 towers.

Call me crazy, but I sat across from Fusion and really came to like the buildings. Normally, I don't like the colour yellow, but I liked this angle. It was taken from across the kayaking obstacle course. Also, I met my first beaver there, which was interesting (I also met a fox running through Tunney's Pasture but didn't snap it).

You know what? I was thinking, why do people hate the first two phases of Fusion? I understand there is a consensus in Ottawa that these buildings are ugly, but I don't recall anyone explaining why these buildings are ugly.

Is it because of the colours used? Is it that they're not mixed-use? From certain angles it's not the most exciting building, but I don't think they're terrible (though yellow is not a favourite colour for me). They use glass and brick (bigger bricks). Is it their shape? They'd designed as a partially enclosed "courtyard/ quad", but that's what's planned for even in Bayview's CDP. Is it because they're the only buildings on LeBreton Flats, meaning that if more buildings are constructed people will like them more?

So, why don't people like these buildings, beyond the "I don't like them because they're ugly." What valid reason is there to hate them?

They are the ONLY buildings in the city that my Girlfriend, who doesn't know/care/think/look/analyze/notice buildings at all, pointed to (recently) and said 'what the hell is that shit?!'

It's the putrid yellow colour.

Colour aside, I do think that they are nice DESIGNS (in a colourless world). The yellow exterior weirdly ages a design that's actually very contemporary for the 2010's. It looks a little 90's to me, to be completely honest. If you replaced the yellow exterior with a light gray then it would highlight the white accents the building already has and it keep it looking like it belongs in 2014.
