464 Bishop St

Quote:
Atlanta-based Newport Development LLC recently submitted a request to rezone 464 Bishop St. from industrial to high-density residential for a 232-unit development.

The site was once home to drywall and acoustical ceilings supply company Capitol Materials Inc., before it relocated to a facility on Marietta Boulevard.

That's an interesting debate about the need to keep industrial land in the city.

To me, this particular tract is suitable for redevelopment since the entire area around Atlantic station/Loring Heights has changed so much. There are also underutilized industrial tracts on the other side of Northside drive.

But that's definitely something to keep in mind.

Looks like we might have some big news coming about Home Park:

http://citycouncil.atlantaga.gov/2014/images/proposed/14O1215.pdf

Pollack Shores is seeking zoning to build 360 apartments on 14th at Mecaslin (across from the mosque).

That area is really on fire. Atlantic Station's presence is finally paying off.

Here's something else interesting:

http://www.atlantaga.gov/modules/showdocument.aspx?documentid=13846

It looks like someone wants approval for a hotel and retail at 380 14th St, across from where those new apartments would be going. I'm not sure what the actual plan is. I assume it would be new construction

This is apparently a second phase of sorts for that site. I remember before the RE crash Pollack had originally planned a much bigger project, in terms of the number of units, than the under construction "Steelworks".

This seems like a really odd location for a hotel. If it is new construction I would assume this to be something in the economy or extended stay class.

If I'm not mistaken, this property would have been a part of the proposed West Town development that was to have 1400 new homes and apartments.

It's not new construction, it's proposed reuse of the old church/theatre:

The article doesn't mention a construction timeline but from previous stories on the project, they are planning to start the first phase in early 2015.

It does mention that the plan has reconfigured the interior streets of the development in a grid pattern with on street parking etc and a new connection to West Peachtree if deals with adjacent property owners are successful. It doesn't mention any new connection to 15th street which I think would be key to helping traffic on 14th.

There is also this from Tivoli's website....

Quote:
In Atlanta, two high-profile YOO projects are close to commencing construction. These groundbreaking projects represent the first time a developer has introduced a globally-renowned lifestyle brand to the residential market. YOO on the Park, located adjacent to Piedmont Park—the recreational epicenter of the city—is conceived as a veritable extension of the park itself, reflecting its greenery, fitness-focus, and liveliness, while adding superb luxury finishes, state-of-the-art technology, and the inventive, unexpected design touches that are immediately and singularly recognizable as YOO.

Mere blocks away from YOO on the Park, situated at the center of Atlanta’s increasingly evolving “Midtown Mile”, 1138 Peachtree will rise as a complement to and ultimate realization of the city’s most forward thinking, modern mixed-use properties.
Is 1138 Peachtree actually about to happen??
I know that they've filed for land disturbance permit but I am still a bit incredulous that this could be moving forward so quickly this time around.

The background is a little misleading...The road depicted is facing west on 13th Street (showing downtown) and we are seeing the northeast corner of yoo on the park. They just decided to randomly place downtown as the background instead of midtown.
