I have been following the Simplicity/Viking Et.All debate ... I am really disappointed that people don't see construction projects as a team approach. The project is as good as it's team, not it's Architect. As a Prime Consultant, the Architect manages it's team ... not just their design intent. A good Architect uses a quantity surveyor and a construction manager to insure a project comes in on budget. Design build and P3's should not be our future ... if it is we will live an soulless City. I have $120.M projects on my table right now, and I value an Archictect at the table for every one.

Does anyone have any solid info on the East End expansion, or can anyone toss me a link to find some?

Wondering where the expansion will be going, have heard conflicting reports around the neighbourhood. Some people think the rink will be on the former baseball fields, some people say that the fields will become parking lots and the current parking lot will be the where the new rink goes.

They've been excavating parts of both fields so far, the baseball field and the soccer field.

East End arena in Transcona, it's expanding from two rinks to three rinks, essentially replacing Roland Michener which will be demolished, but no one seems to know how it will be configured exactly.

I work next to the University of Winnipeg's Institute of Urban Studies. They definitely have some intriguing information and graphics on the renewal of winnipeg.

It will go directly south of the existing rink on the parking lot. They are removing all of the existing fields for new parking. So the whole site will be arena and parking.

What does Sandhu have in their inventory that they have not announced yet? Do they still have the princess property?

Apparently on the CBRE website they are advertising the sale of the tennis court lot on Stradbrook... 2.5MM will buy you a lot that is rezoned RMF and approved for 200 units.

Pretty much—except marginally better food and infinitely longer wait.

Good to hear.

Stella's locations are generally open late (10 or 11pm).

Confirmed by the CCFM's website:

The Centre culturel franco-manitobain (CCFM) and Stella's restaurants are pleased to announce a new partnership that promises to make the CCFM an even more vibrant and welcoming site.

At Stella's CCFM location, you will be able to have breakfast, lunch and supper as well as a full service bar with a distinctive francophone character and ambiance that will be ensured by a bilingual staff.

I wonder what the hell is going on here. The third time in 2 years this property is for sale. If Globe General can't do anything with it, who actually stands a chance here?

Here's your quintessential TOD development site backed by one of the most successful property owners in western Canada, they successfully rezone it RMU and dump it into the open market?

Something is strange here. These guys don't have money problems...

I believe the CCFM was not happy with Cora's because they did not stay open late even when events were going on at the centre. I think they felt Cora's was not supportive of the cultural mission of the CCFM. Perhaps Stella's will be a better partner?
