Spotted a job posting for Lindt Chocolates at Lansdowne Park.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and keen individual to fill the role of Assistant Manager for our “NEW” Lindt Outlet Boutique for the Landsdowne Park location. The ideal candidate must possess strong communication skills and a passion for sales and merchandising.

What is with this use of 'passion'? I heard this talked about on the radio over the weekend relating to applying for jobs. I can't imagine having this kind of intense feeling about any kind of job. Does this make me a bad potential employee? Do we have to BS to this degree to get even a retail position these days?

It all seems over the top.

Should be banished from Ottawa; it's used to describe EVERYTHING. Hell, the Mayor describes the Confederation Line as "world class" one day and as a "Chevrolet" the next.

But yes, I agree that the phrase world-class should die in a sea of fire. I blame Toronto and more specifically David Miller for popularizing the phrase in the Canadian lexicon. It smacks of envy and insecurity. Hey, Torontonians, why not also perpetually mention you're the fourth largest city in North America to seal the deal? Oh, wait....

'Luxury', however, is a time-honoured term associated with tackiness, so there's a retro thing going there (thing 'luxury' vinyl tops and faux-leather seats in a 1970s car ad).

I'd rather sit in something that described itself as 'luxury' instead of world-class.

I buy the Sunday NY Times and its magazine has ads for mufti-million dollar condos. However, the ads never use the word "luxury" unlike the ads for $300K Ottawa condos.

The term luxury is certainly used regularly in condo listings everywhere, as are others such as world-class, stylish, fashionable, trendy, etc. I've worked and lived in 5 different countries and have seen these terms used everywhere including NY, SF, Paris and Bangkok. They are just words to entice potential customers. In marketing, we play with reality, or more precisely, your reality... McDonalds would never shoot an ad depicting their "real" uneven and slightly crooked fries. Yet, your experience of them is still good enough to order them again and again. No big deal. By the way, the really top end luxurious condos and villas don't get advertised in mainstream publications.

Very true. Toronto had an unhealthy obsession with being world class for decades before David Miller came on the scene. But I think we can all agree that it's their fault.

Tour of TD Place Stadium with Ottawa media and mayor Jim Watson today!

Official status is now 90% complete according to the construction company working on the site. The stadium will be complete well in advance of the July 18th official opening date.

One thing I'll be interested in seeing is how they cordon off the park from the stadium itself. Right now it appears extremely open on the East side to all manner of foot traffic from the park and the Aberdeen Pavilion area. There also don't seem to be too many natural barriers in place that could easily demarcate where ticket holders would be allowed to go and where the general public has access to on any given day (game day or not). Wonder how they'll tackle this without having to put down a big ol' wall/fence.
