the shangri-la looks weird, like it was photoshopped in.

Other than that, beautiful picture, the article however... LOL

It's a press photo from pre-launch, IIRC. And there's a shnazzy S logo up top that doesn't exist. This photo made an appearance earlier in this thread as well.

So is this a real photo from top of Patina or not? Sweet photo, nonetheless. Very similar to what I look at every day, although I can't see through Patina.

That S-logo would have looked tacky considering the hotel is only first 18 floors of the building.

It looks like a $ from a cheesy game show to me...perhaps appropriate.

I like the S logo. It would give some marking to an otherwise invisible tower at night. I don't understand why they don't add some LED lighting on top the building.

Ok, but what's the reasoning behind the bylaw?

The developer took one of the penthouse units...pretty sure they didn't want a huge sign blocking their view....

That's besides the point. A sign and LED lighting can still go up above the unit or on a wall with spandrel.

Or disrupt the night mountain view AKA twilight view cones?

This is Vancouver; there is no reasoning.

In the other thread someone was wondering about the pop-up window washing crane. Here's the best close-up of the crane that I can do.

Wow, that scaffolding / fin at the top on the thin edge looks perfect for a logo / sign.... ugh, it is disappointing that would could not have the Shangri-La logo on top of this building. The view cones are strange regulations, but the no signs / logos above 450 feet (I believe that is the height) is really strange to me... How would a logo at just over 600 feet be any more invasive than a company logo on top of any of the Bental Towers??

Some of our weird/strange City bylaws really don't make any cow sense.

I assumed it was a sort of lefty anti-corporate sentiment, which I am ok with personally.

Seems ok to expose pedestrians and drivers on street level to corporate logos. I guess in our city things that fly, seagulls and other birds, are sort of lefty anti-corporate types. They tend to drop dead seeing corporate logos on building tops. Finally makes lots of sense now.

The Shangri-La had a corporate logo in TRON: Legacy, reminded me of the Shaw tower's logo. It even featured a light feature going all the way down.
