My sister works for Vanguard, and she is young and lives in the city. She has not heard of this, but will check when she gets to work on Monday and let me know. She has actually been searching for a place out near Malvern because the commute from Philly is long for her.

My source at Vanguard (literally top 5 in command) tells me he/she knows nothing about this potential move/expansion into the city. I will have more time to delve deeper next week. Hopefully he/she is lying.

Everybody through all levels at my company was a liar up until the day they announced our move. Comcast denied their new building until they formally announced it. Denial is just part of the process.

Vanguard would be so smart to open up a 'satellite' office in Center City. I know people at several firms with suburban offices that are having a hard time hiring and are thinking about ways to expand their urban offices to do the work instead. Being in Center City with the transit we have opens up their hiring opportunities to 3 million more people than have access to their Malvern campus. I hope big time this rumor turns out to be true!

Anyone?

Whoa! Is this for real?? I live near here and didn't even notice. I thought this was a photo of the Temple at first. I'm tempted to step outside and take a look.

Two great things happening around the IRS building near 30th:

The cap is going in on the east side of the building along Schuylkill Ave. (now if only the gap east of FMC/Evo would be capped too...) There is some marble waiting to be installed, though I don't know exactly what for.

8 massive planters (about 15' x 20' each) are being installed on the north side along Market Street. The planters have been sitting as shown below for a few weeks, don't know why the delay.

Looking north along Schuylkill Ave, small cap is along IRS building's east side:

Looking south to Chestnut Street:

Marble sits curbside on Schuylkill Ave., waiting to be installed:

Looking east along Market St., 8 large planters (~ 15' x 20' each) will be installed in IRS building's north plaza across from The Porch:

I literally has a dream - maybe after some of this stuff that Apple built an Apple eat on Market East with a new giant apple store with light on the street at the gallery and a tower with an illuminated apple on top

heck why not google east too - tech development related to media distribution - maybe a new electronic media hub - ha it's fun to dream
SEI is focused on global expansion and isn't having difficulty recruiting, at the moment. Additionally, SEI has a different business model than Vanguard and our clients are 4x more likely to sign a contract with us if they visit our innovative campus in Oaks.

While I would LOVE for them to have an office in the city as it'd make my commute a lot easier, I doubt it'll happen.

That model has been in the Kling Stubbins office for at least three years.
I'm not sure if it's just a pretty decoration or a building In Dubai or something but it isn't new.

Yea I doubt SEI will be ready for a move in the near future. I was given a tour of their campus in Oaks last year, and I don't see them leaving their facilities (art gallery, etc).

19th and Chestnut plan. Looks like the 1920's retail structure at the corner will either be saved or simulated.

Thanks for the info. Great looking building. Any idea of its height?

Me too!

So then it's official: the Design Committee (Pennsgrant, Jelly Roll, and I) has unanimously approved this building for construction.

I like it in general but it seems like this one is almost trying to be just like 10 Rittenhouse. The Mormon residential tower is too, but at least that's by the same architect.

This thing looks like a cross between 10 Rit and the Saint James. Again, in general, I definitely approve. It could have been much much worse-- like 1900 Arch or 2040 Market, for example.

Caveat. With a moderate color change this proposal can very easily become Symphony House II

No, I disagree. Color is important (and may help to address some of Aaamazarite's concerns), but this has more elegant proportions, and a more unified and less eclectic and hodgepodge design than Symphony House.

Looks like the icon. I think I said that about the Mormon residential tower too but this one is much closer to it.
