Other than the fact that they nixed a park-side cafe that would have been a great amenity.

Yea I'm super bummed about the cafe. If CHoP doesn't add retail to their south street project then we've missed two great opportunities for SRT amenities... the one thing it really lacks.

It lacks amenities like a cafe because of the CSX rail tracks. I figured this would be an easy concept to understand. I guess not?

I thought the original plan had a cafe facing the entrance to the park

Comon now. That is oversimplifying it.

Having amenities to complement what is clearly a very successful trail & park along the river –whether they be on top of the trail, on the river or just on the other side of the CSX tracks– would be a nice boon to an already successful park. Lets not forget they just built a pedestrian bridge over the tracks from the very park this building is going up in...

And this is only one of the benefits that would fall out of CHoP being more retail friendly at their new development.

I think they were referring to this passage in Inga's article:

If this has been scrapped due to funding issues, it's a real shame I loved that design. I thought I read somewhere they were looking at foreign investment to cover the last 40%. Maybe that's what didn't materialize.

I'm confused. Is this the Eastern Tower? If so, I thought they just announced a funding source last month?

Yes, the video was well done. The investor link hasn't been updated yet, so can't tell what the eligibility is for investors.

Design wise, I love the building. Hope it gets built. It'll serve the community well being mixed use. Also hope the Chinese lettering on the side gets lit up at night in neon - that would be awesome. Didn't notice that before in previous renderings.

What does everyone think about this new urban Wal Mart design for Broad and Washington or Market East? Put prejudices aside and be pragmatic.

Not a bad design, but for Broad and Washington and NOT Market East. In my opinion, the proximity of Market East to tourism, convention, and central business district activity calls for going more upscale than Walmart, in both brand and design.

Why, are you saying for inventory management purposes, or you don't think people want to enjoy a beverage near active trash-train tracks? Both points are short-sighted.

They also plan to renovate 101 North Broad which I would like to see happen as it's a pretty cool old building. They are building an apartment complex on Venice Island in Manayunk, which I think would bring some more foot traffic and help some of the local businesses, and they're doing Edgewater that I thought had some hiccups but I could be wrong.

From my understanding the project was taking shape about a year and a half ago but shortly died because there was no funding. Its a cool project hopefully it gets funding eventually.

This is a MASSIVE and AWESOME project for that section of center city and brings even more density right off 676. Anybody know if this sucker is approved and when possible construction may commence?
