Same. Some of the comments here sound like they're coming from a bunch of geriatric armchair engineers.

The structure will be fine. The gravity-defying quality is what makes this project great. The depth and "pixilation" of the façade will in-fact obscure any value engineering in cladding systems. A city in a temperate rainforest like Vancouver could actually use more top-heavy towers that blossom upwards...

This!

Imagine that this project is rejected, would that make the critics happier? If the developer pulls out last minute, would you guys be glad?

I couldn't care less whether the project gets built or not.

If it gets built, then a dumb project got built.

If it doesn't get built, then a dumb project didn't get built.

Doesn't matter to me. Either way it's still dumb.

My questions are not meant for you; they are for those who have suddenly become turncoats. So don't get too excited.

I guess many of us are too dumb to get your concept of "dumb". I will still be out there anticipating the completion of this project.

A recap of this "dumb" project, as according to someone..... I really can't wait for all the "dumbness" to be completed.

The south end of the Granville Bridge at Granville Island manages to be active without resorting to gimicky chandeliers and light boxes. The ivy growing up the supports does the job quite nicely.

So you're saying it's active because of the ivy?

The ivy is the beautification part - like the light boxes and chandelier - that provide a nice environment that promotes activity.

Although ivy can run rampant...

that chandelier is very stupid to have i think. it's not even that nice looking.

will they be adding sparkly sidewalks like Time Square NY and granite walls up the bridge as well? then maybe it wouldn't be as stupid.

Good call, they should have just left it blank. Nothing like exposed concrete on the underside of an overpass to liven things up.

Blank would have been better then the "chandelier". I look at that chandelier, and what it says to me is, this neighbourhood is ritzy, mofo. Its so ritzy and high class that we hang thing outside that people who have money would hang inside their houses. Thats how ritzy and high class this area is. I mean they could hang a gold plated bidet, and it would say the same thing to me. Maybe I'm not in a high enough tax bracket to appreciate things like this. Just my opinion anyhow....for what its worth.

It's public art, what do you expect? At least you guys found something creative to complain about.

Yeah, I tend to agree here. Public art is always going to be subjectively loved or hated, and at the end of the day it gets people looking at it and forming an opinion. That in itself means that people will go to that area and look at it.

I think it would be smart if the chandelier has a set lifespan in the spot and is then replaced at intervals by other pieces of art. I know that the whole area is going to be a bit of an outdoor gallery - Emily Carr students will be displaying their work on the "ceiling" areas and they will be changed regularly. Will keep things fresh down there.

I have to agree that the chandelier is even dumber than the building.

In fact, the dumbness of the chandelier makes the building appear to be absolute genius!

Wait… or should I have said that the two combined are a great example of Dumb and Dumber?

This thread is going into the gutter.... Now it's 'let's trash talk that dumb chandelier', lol! You guys need to put your great minds together and solve the problem of homelessness in this city.
