Overall so far it looks good, the architecture is almost 1950-60 style very interesting. McLain said he had more demand than space so that's good.
To add dynamic visuals the hotel needs to be above the whole complex 10-12
floors'
Also the modern style of the existing Springhill Suites should fit in nicely
McLain said his team is negotiating with 17 different national restaurant chains - most of them new to Huntsville - plus a number of well-known retailers. They will be identified as leases are signed, he said.
"We have been fairly overwhelmed with interest," said McLain. "By this fall, I'm hoping we're fully leased on the retail side, have a multi-family partner (to build the apartments) and the hotel is under construction.
"Will there be a Nieman-Marcus? I don't think so.
Will you be highly excited by the tenants we do bring? I can guarantee that," said McLain.
In addition to McLain, who owns the land and runs Coldwell Banker Commercial McLain Real Estate, and other members of the McLain family, the Constellation team announced Tuesday includes: Batson-Cook Development of Atlanta; The McGarey Group retail recruitment and leasing firm of Huntsville; Huntsville's Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood architects; financial adviser Charles Dunlap of Atlanta; and Huntsville-based Yedla Management, which will develop the new hotel.
McLain said he will ask the City of Huntsville to cover the cost of at least one of the two parking decks at Constellation, and also pay for a new pedestrian bridge across Pinhook Creek. The bridge would allow Constellation shoppers and hotel guests to walk to and from the VBC, Big Spring International Park and other spots downtown.
McLain said he did not know how much the parking garage and bridge would cost, but they won't be cheap. Huntsville recently agreed to pay $8 million to lease a 254-space parking deck from the developers of a new shopping center on Bob Wallace Avenue that will be anchored by a Whole Foods Market.
The two garages at Constellation will be much larger with more than 1,400 combined parking spaces.
