Nice!
.. and that's the second tower, not the Willingdon and Halifax one (which is higher on the hill).

Seems like it will have quite the floor plate. From the other render I think I counted 5 or 6 unites on the visible side of the building. A nice change in my opinion.

That render has actually two towers, but the second one is almost completely behind the first one. That doesn't come so clear from the small render.

I agree with previous posters that this complex will be huge and together with Solo District it will look amazing. Brentwood will surely have the best Suburban skyline in next 15 years IMO.

Agreed. Metrotown may always be big brother, but I think Brentwood will be more impressive, nicer designed, and generally more pleasant and attractive.

No, that's wrong. The existing mall will be retained and expanded at its north (Zellers) end.

The plan is to eventually eliminate the mall, but not for 20 years or so from now.

The fabric roof of the mall is still shown in the "full build-out" video.

Aside from their outlet malls, Seattle and Portland (with similarly wet climates) have open shopping malls--University Village and Bridgeport Village. Both seem pretty successful.

Council has pressed pause on moving Brentwood Town Centre’s first proposed 53-storey tower forward, at least until residents’ issues are addressed.

Ugh....These residents definitely have issues but I fear they cannot be helped.

Edit: upon actually reading the article it seems its not an objection to the height or design. Still disappointing to see things get dragged out.

Yeah, it's just a speed bump (which will probably result in more speed bumps on Brentlawn ) rather than an obstacle. I just want to see this thing start!

So the old mall structure is staying in tact?

The ultimate build-out video shows the teflon roof in place among a bunch of new buildings.
But one of the open house boards also showed a pedestrian route cutting across what is now part of the mall
- so I think the structure will largely remain - but they may open a path across it.

Here's a board from the June 2012 Open House - compared to the January 2012 Open House -

And here are the out-of-date REALLY OLD December 2011 plans from the Shape Website
(these may still show how the new and old may be integrated in the near term)

This last plan shows a movie theatre that does not appear to exist in the current renderings
(unless the large curved upper level fronting the plaza houses movie theatres?)

The stupidest thing a condo buyer can currently do is to pay extra and pre-buy into anything that would be marketed as "the tallest in Burnaby / Lower Mainland". That ranking seems to be changing almost every month.

Burnaby is on fire!

I love it! Hopefully it'll all get pushed through with no problems.
