Did everyone glance over this? I'm excited.

I did as I jumped for joy.

At 35 stories or taller, we could be looking at something at least 450FT.

Lets hope the 35+ is just for the hotel and that with residential it will be another 10-15 floors pushing it towards the 600' mark.

Now that is cool. when it first took off towards the Wells Fargo Center I was like 🞵🞵🞵🞵 don't hit the building and was wondering when the first 🞵🞵🞵 totting Utahn was going to shoot it down. lol. Wish I had $300-500 to pick up a decent drone for my own play. I think it would be a cool thing to use to fly around videoing downtown and the construction sites. Just imagine having one to peak into the top floors of the CCH and 111 as they begin to top out.

Nice.. I hope they let the developer choose the location.. They know their market and will most likely not pick RWP..

If the developer has a say I think the Plaza block will likely be their first choice.. If the can work out a deal with LDS.

Hopefully 35 floors is the low-end of what they're planning.. I would be disappointed with anything under 40..

Denver's Four Seasons comes to mind.

I'd like something like Denver's.

I want the CCH to be 35-45 stories as much as the next guy, however, im just thinking about upper level condos, their viability and potential buyers... I know if I were looking for a condo, I wouldnt want to live somewhere as busy as a convention center hotel. It would get old after awhile.

I guess if there was a completely separate lobby/parking detached from any of the convention space it might be doable, however, I would probably look for a strictly residential bldg if Im dropping $750K+ in downtown

The combination of Luxury Hotel and Luxury Residential has become pretty commonplace these days. Separate entry and parking, and all other luxury amenities are provided, along with the conveniences that a luxury hotel can provide. The residential owner need never mix with hotel patrons or convention goers if so desired. The new Los Angeles CCH, Marriott/Ritz is an example.

Often, luxury condos also serve as a luxury hotel suite. This can be a very attractive cash cow for owners who know they're not going to be occupying a residence for much of the year. Deer Valley has many examples, such as the St. Regis or The Chateaux.

I think it's pretty reasonable to assume we'll hit over 40 stories with this new hotel. When you consider around a 1000 standard hotel room mix, plus luxury residential, 40-plus stories seems pretty casual. This especially if the city is looking for an iconic tower as UtPlanner suggested. We'll probably be getting some sort of variation of the CCH in Los Angeles, which is a combination of a taller and shorter tower.

Loving the talk of making the CCH the new tallest! Now knowing that's their goal does it change anyone's opinion about where the tower should be located? The RWP site does have its advantages and seams like a natural location for additional convention space but I'm not sure if I would want the tallest tower in the city to be that far west.

To add to this just a bit. Those that rent or personally live in a condo with a hotel get to use the hotels concierge services and can get house cleaning, room service and other hotel amenities. You get the hotel service but actually own the unit.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that Salt Lake will follow a two tower configuration. One shorter and one taller. I just hope that the towers will be more along the stylized type as with Los Angeles, and not just a big box with endless windows.

Denver Hyatt CCH : Not a fan of the design, but it is interesting to know how many rooms/suites are packed into this taller and shorter configuration, and it's height. The height is 489 feet and 39 floors at it's tallest. There are 1100 rooms, which includes 60 suites. The 2005 cost was approx. 355 million, which is about what they've estimated they want to spend in SLC. Should get a significantly bigger bang for the buck today than in 2005, right?

LOL. In some ways that's an improvement over the Phoenix CCH, but still... ugh!

That's an interesting dilemma Skystruck. I don't know how it's going to be avoided though. The new CCH tower is likely to be the new tallest, and no matter how much some might desire to squeeze it into a West Temple vicinity, a major tower with all of the accompanying amenities of a true CCH just ain't going to fit. Westward, as a integral part of the Salt Palace is the only viable solution. I guess we'll just have another skyline hole to look forward to filling. If they do design a taller tower with a shorter twin, that should help take up some visible skyline space. Even a new tallest toward the west should look impressive though. Viewing it from certain angles gently to the Northwest, with the Wasatch in the background could be awesome. Also, as many have suggested, it will be nice to look south and see a much wider skyline from above the Capitol.

Comrade, that just made my night. Probably my whole week. Awesome.

I always trust Planner and Makid, because they've got the inside scoop on stuff, but I'm going to stick to exactly what they say so far and not get my hopes up for a 40-45-higher story tower.

I hope for a new tallest, and I want it to look taller than either Wells Fargo or the COB. Even though Wells Fargo is tallest, most Salt Lakers/Utahns think the COB is taller, because it's on higher ground, and because of the influence of the LDS Church. It'd be great to have a tower that not only is taller, but actually looks taller. Maybe with a spire or crown or Carl's Jr on top. Whatever.

Excited that they want to make it visually interesting. Hoping for the best, but trying to keep my expectations real.

Maybe not as real as Comrade's.

B. E. A. UUUUuuuuutiful Comrade!

I've often found it hard to convince people that Wells Fargo is taller than COB. Even after explaining the higher ground thing. This one time, a woman told me "Well of course the Church Office is taller, god blessed it."

I wouldn't care if the COB was taller, but Wells is so much bigger and faaar more interesting. Definitely our biggest tower. No arguing.

All true, not a lot of options for placement. I remember someone suggesting the convention space could still go on RWP while putting the hotel in a separate more eye pleasing location. This would allow the hotel to fit on a smaller property but probably wouldn't be as cost effective to build or be as convenient for convention goers. Either way I'm just excited that this is getting closer to reality and that we are potentially looking at a new tallest regardless of location! I do like your 2 tower idea as long as one of them is really tall and 🞵🞵🞵🞵 lol!
