These are all 50m and the rest are at 40m. The 40m underground stations have knock out panels to make to 50m. The other above ground can also be expanded to 50m ( or more, I suppose).

I think the extra bulk of these pillars is to counteract the horizontal (lateral?) movement of the track as the trains run through the curve.

And also perhaps the extra weight of the steel beams (even though they are supposed to be hollow) that will have the concrete trackbeds on top of them.

I'm also noticing that it doesn't appear that these tracks are going to banked to minimize the noise of the wheel squeeling while going through the curve.
This could be quite noticeable at White Spot as trains fly overhead.

^ Quite likely. Our neighbours to the south have sure been having a rough go of it with their giant TBM. Even the University Link LRT extension isn't exactly a model of efficiency: a two station, 5.5km long twin-bored tunnel extension from downtown to the University of Washington with a price tag of $1.9B USD. They absolutely need it, and it will easily double the Central Link LRT system's ridership numbers, but wow; an expensive extension. It's been under construction since 2009 and won't open for revenue service until 2016.

Loving all the Evergreen Line updates everyone! Been watching them closely here on the other side of the world. It is nice that Metro-Vancouver has at least one big city elevated structure aspect to it, go skytrain!

Yes, I am living in the land of elevated freeways, railways, crazy flashing lights, 24 hour bars and clubs, and I am loving it But, I still need all the updates from my home city, hehe. (PS, don't tell anyone but many of the most interesting shopping and entertainment districts are mingled under, beside, and sometimes over these road / rail viaducts).

I think that if given the opportunity a really cool district could be built in and around Lougheed Station. Would be nice to have some lighting effects on the guideways around there.

Shape (owner of Lougheed Mall) is intending on redeveloping their properties (which includes the buildings occupied by Sears Outlet and others) into a pedestrian/transit oriented development. Hopefully they work with Translink and the other property owners and work on something good.

Also, rail segments have started to arrive at the south tunnel portal.

There hasn't really been much visible change around the steel girders at Lougheed, but it's hard to see with them being covered in plywood.

There's stuff happening on the platform, but it's also obscured by that solid construction fencing they've put up down the platform.

I did drive in the area yesterday. The weather was so crappy taking pics would have been futile. But yeah, there really hasn't that much changes to what dpogue and madog222 described. Some of my own observations though....

1) Most of the columns at North Road are already built. North of Cameron, there seems to be only one hole to erect a column and one column that consists of rebar atm.

2) At Gatineau Place, one column immediately north of the steel girders has been poured and rebars for another one after that is in place.

3) Other unfinished columns north of Gatineau Place but south of Cameron already has those blue forms on them, including one that is covered in white plastic (dunno why that is special).

4) At the South tunnel portal area, there is a stack of steel rails. I dunno why they are there, but I suspect that they may already be planning to install rails fairly soon. I know from dpogue's pics (that he hasn't displayed), they already have rails at the Evergreen platform in the Lougheed station. I wonder if installing the rails is part of the construction process, at least for the steel girders at the Lougheed station area?

5) The slanted guideway above Como Lake is so sad looking. I don't think they did anything new to it since the incident. The first segment within the Burquitlam station columns and beams is done (the guideway is no longer attached to the gantry crane) but they haven't started on the second segment yet as of yesterday.

They are installing rails at the switches east of Lougheed station, as previously reported by dpogue. It can be seen by going up the escalator toward the platform.

I know its the wrong portal location, but could they be rails for the TBM? They'll be installing a temporary rail system for removing dirt as the TBM progresses.
