I think once this floor's walls are down the large 490 excavator will likely take over and have this down in no time. Photos from today:

The excavator is on the ground now, I checked back through Nova Scotia webcams to try and spot it coming down, but couldn't get the right angle. A ramp of debris has been created so the larger 490 excavator can do the rest.

They planned to, it would go towards their LEED score. The last time I was by before the front came down all the granite was still in place.

Glad this project is going through! Even though I live in Vancouver, I always enjoy checking out the development in the East coast just because I feel that the country doesn't put enough investment to really make the East Coast shine like it deserves to.

It's a beautiful building and although it is just proposed, I kind of feel like it is going to pull through.

Cheers, scryer! Thanks for the post. Most welcome on these "East coast" parts of SSP! Would definitely be good to have some YVR style development and investment out here in YHZ.

I have a question.

This project was proposed in October 2012. It is now April 2014. Why is this project not approved yet? Wasn't it proposed before 22 Commerce, which is now approved, but this one isn't? What is the hold up?

It is approved as far as I know, I don't think DJ updated the name of the thread yet.

I don't think it is approved. Its waiting on some amendment to a density issue as far as I know still and if that doesn't happen the developer doesn't plan to build it until there is a city council bold enough to do so.

Not approved yet. The proposal as it currently stands doesn't meet some of the HRMXD rules regarding tower width and setbacks.

^New surface parking lots are banned in the Downtown area.

Besides it looks like approval will be next week; Design Review Committee Decision - April 10th, 2014

Between this site, the TexPark lot and the Roy Building coming down, there will be a pretty open view of the harbour/refinery from Barrington for a little while.

Sounds wonderful, to stand on Barrington and see across to the old refinery. Maybe we should save the view? Could be just like 1749 when Cornwallis arrived. How historic, great heritage.
