Funnily enough just recently a train arrived on a different track than was scheduled, the doors to the rail overpass were locked and no station officials were present due to poor weather. The crew on board the train offered no help or direction on what to do. Passengers decided on their own to cross the tracks to get to their train. Oops.
Looks like Gatineau's De La Cité Rapibus station.

Woke up, and read the paper this morning.

What do I see, Hydro One has completed the draft study for building the Union Pearson Power Substation.

The study is part of the first steps required to electrify the Pearson/UPX/Milton Line.

----------

Also, work is beginning on the new Underground portion/Tunnel Boring Extraction/Tunnel Boring Insertion Pits at Eglinton West Station for the Crosstown Line.

Toronto Star leaked out Ontario's Budget roll out calendar.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/215712556/Ontario-budget-rollout-calendar-2014

April 16th looks like a great day for Hamilton, "Hamilton LRT" with Minister Murrary. Hamilton is seeking for $1 billion for the B-Line LRT.

Wow! Ontario soon to have 4 cities with rapid transit! Awesome! I hope for Alberta to one day achieve this. I know Fort McMurray is talking about an LRT, but neither Red Deer or Lethbridge are. I don't think it would be useful in Red Deer, but Lethbridge could certainly use a link between the University and Downtown Core.

2 days beforehand, April 14th is supposed to be the announcement for the big move, meaning funding for $34 billion in GTHA transit projects.

Also, it will include funding for the hurontario LRT which means Mississauga will also be home to rapid transit, making It 5 Ontario cities.

Congratulations to Mississauga and Hamilton.

Let's wait till it's official so we don't jinx it.

If we say that then wouldn't the K-W one be for two cities then?

then you include, brampton, vaughan, and arguably every municipality on the lakeshore line which is Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, and Hamilton.

I included it as it operates seperately from the TTC network (unlike Vaughan), and Mississauga is the dominant municipality in Peel. If you want to get pedantic you can say "peel region" just like you can say "waterloo region" for the K-W LRT.

Metro areas guys. Metro areas. Let's not get too excited here. They will all be connected to the same system as their core city, except for the Hurontario LRT which will be independent, so that makes 5 independent rapid transit systems in 4 metro areas.

Let's summarize RT in Ontario's CMAs

-Ottawa: Transitway, O-Train, the new Confederation Line metro U/C
-Kingston: Has BRT-lite (express buses w/ signal priority), to be upgraded to full BRT in future
-Toronto: Subway, streetcars, BRT, LRT U/C
-Hamilton: Soon to be LRT
-K-W: Already has BRT-lite, soon to be LRT as well
-London: Supposed to have BRT? (keep hearing about it occasionally don't know if anything has happened)

Don't know about any other cities.

Mississauga is also getting a BRT line, I believe? On Hurontario?

edit: didn't realize it was already posted a few replies ago :\

^ I'm talking about CMA's, so Mississauga's BRT & LRT are lumped in with Toronto in that list.

Municipalities make it hard because there's so many cross-municipal systems in the GTA... the Highway 7 VIVA BRT for example includes Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan.

Leaked Liberal budget documents mention Hamilton LRT announcement

http://www.thespec.com/news-story/444123...ments-mention-hamilton-lrt-announcement/

A leaked document indicates the Liberal government is planning to make an announcement regarding Light Rail Transit (LRT) for Hamilton this month.

An 11-page communications rollout released Tuesday by the Progressive Conservatives mentions April 16 as the date for Transportation Minister Glen Murray to speak about the LRT before the unveiling of the budget on May 1.

The event where this would take place is listed as TBD — to be determined. The paper also mentions that officials from the Finance Ministry and Infrastructure Ministry would be involved.

City council is on record supporting an east-west LRT for Hamilton but not funding the estimated $1-billion cost. It is proposed to come one day in the second phase of a massive transit plan for the Toronto and Hamilton areas.

Thought this was interesting. When discussing the Kitchener AD2W project here Glen Murray, Ontario's Transportation minister, states that they would like to see the trains run at "a couple hundred kilometers an hour". could this be the closest thing Canada will get to HSR? it would certainly be the first time trains travel at over 200km/h.

Quote:
"we've then got to upgrade that track so if you want higher speed trains we've got to put concrete ties, we've got to upgrade the quality of the rail because eventually we don’t want sixty mile [an hour trains]."

"We need trains that are running a couple hundred kilometres an hour, that’s our goal with regional rail, so you’re talking about the kinds of rapid rail systems that you see in that."
Murray also seems intent on starting some major expansions on regional rail in the province, possibly with some cooperation with VIA.

Holy Shit!

This is gold, this explains the upgrades to the track and the studies on electrification which are now coming to a close. As the track is upgraded, its being upgraded to handle speeds in a the 200kph range, which would allow a trip from Kitchener to Toronto in about 30 to 45 minutes depending on the number of stops.
