I noticed Koops65 updated our skyscraper diagrams page with diagrams of two of these buildings: Diagrams.

How does one draw these diagrams? Is there a program?

These buildings would be very similar to Absolute World in Mississauga in height/profile. Very impressive!

Auto Dealership Moves to Make Way for Ottawa’s Next-Tallest
MARCH 28TH

The Canadian capital of Ottawa is beginning to catch up with its coastal and prairie-boomtown peers in the race to build taller and more sustainable developments. An auto dealership has announced plans to relocate from 845 Carling Avenue, where Richcraft Homes plans to build two 48-story residential buildings and one 18-story building. The twin towers would be Ottawa’s tallest. In a sign of the times, the project’s backers highlight its adjacency to the Carling station of the “O-Train,” Ottawa’s nascent light-rail system.

The taller towers are to be oriented north-south along the O-Train corridor, and the shorter tower closer to Adeline Street. The development would contain 1,123 residential units and 80,124 square meters of space for retail, amenity and residential areas. Six levels of underground parking will contain 766 spaces, and 566 bicycle spaces are also included as part of the proposal. Between the towers, a 1,585 square-meter public plaza and a multi-use pathway, fronted by live-work units with ground-floor entrances along the rail line, will activate the site at ground level.

So, it's not the 55, 45, 18 storey rendering we saw, they are going for the originaly 48x2 height?

I'm skeptical that this project will go through with the height, at least with things being the way they are. Are there people in Ottawa willing to live 40 floors above ground, or at this location? Has Soho Italia been selling well, or are they having trouble like Claridge?

Is SOHO Italia even up for sale? Their site says: Welcoming the youngest
of the soho collection this summer.

There's a sign at the Soho Italia's location but only Claridge Icon is up for sale.

Whoah whoah whoah.... '80,124 square meters of space for retail, amenity and residential areas.'

That is 862,448 sq. ft.... larger than Rideau Centre...

Hm... You may be right but I forgot (I could have sworn they were selling some). I went during the summer to get more info on many of the condos going up, and this is one that I went to. They said they were going to launch the sales sometime soon or by this summer (I forget when exactly, but it's obviously postponed), but the units have been finalized, it's just the balconies with the original design they were waiting on for with the increased height...

All things being equal I think that's the best place in the city to live - close to interesting neighbourhoods, good transit (better in 2018), fairly easy walk/bike to downtown, decent nightlife, access to lots of greenspace, etc., but I think that neighbourhood probably needs a few more amenities (grocery stores, drug stores, lcbos), upgrades to the o-train (and Bayview connection) to be up and running before people really want to jump onto the bandwagon. Also, I would be worried there are basically no limits to developable land, which would probably constrain condo values for years to come.

I don't think they mean 80,124 square metres of retail.

I think they mean full build out of 80,124 square metres including residences, amenities and retail.

1. Likely this news clip about Dow Honda was done on the quick and just reflects the original proposal.

2. Why wouldn't the be willing to? I think the sales issue has more to do with volume of units and price, not the height of the living spaces. Metropole doesn't seem to have any trouble with people living 32 floors up after all.

Maybe you have more info gjhall since this is right on the ward border, but the actual development application on devapps is for two 48 storey towers... I think the only place we've seen the 45/55 towers is on the architects website.

Wasn't there also a charette of the area that had these buildings with the same design and height of Vibe:Battery?

True, there are people living at that height, and it's really just a thought. But because we don't have any completed buildings that are above 30 stories, I'm just wondering if perhaps people in Ottawa are distrusting of buildings above that height. I mean, attending some of the community meetings people have asked about what would happen in case of an earthquake or fire in regards to tall buildings, and it's possible that this would be something people would consider if looked to buy. While it would take some getting used to, people might not feel very comfortable living above a certain height here until it's been proven to work in Ottawa, possibly.

But then again I have some severe acrophobia, so I know that I probably wouldn't live this high up, and other people may be more comfortable up there than me.

I'm going to be honest: as exciting as having a 50 or 40 storey building in Ottawa may be, I kind of feel that this area doesn't really need to have a building at such a height yet. 30 stories is still a very generous height for this particular area. I can imagine at around Tunney's or even downtown where buildings at this height might break the monotony of the skyline, but I just feel that this height is presently unnecessary at this location.

I find it strange that the only spot in the city where we are pushing for mega density increase (and seeing developer willingness to do so as opposed to the Lees-Blair corridor) is on the O-Train line, where we have limited current and future transit capacity (2,500 pphpd).

Why are we not proposing 40-50+ story buildings at Tunney's or Bayview where we are building a metro line with an eventual capacity of 24,000 pphpd?

That said, once the market picks up again (one day, hopefully), I have no doubt all of these buildings will sell out just as quickly as a few years back.

You're doing that thing with "we" again, mixing up the city planners, consultants, public, property owners, developers and speculators into one collective actor, and asking questions of it, and getting muddled answers...

OK, I apologize. Why dip shits with too much power and money (encompassing City of Ottawa, consultants, developers, but not the general public) are building super high density on a low capacity transit corridor.
