^^NOW THAT^^ is a beautiful aerial rendering of the new Comcast's CITC skyscraper! The only thing that saddens me is, looking at the Bell Atlantic Tower (3 Logan). From that angle, it looks like it's hiding behind "mommy's apron". That's too bad. I really love that skyscraper..always have, always will. Anyway, moving on.. I really do like the rendering at street level, as well. Shows off the lobby area very nicely. Are those "real" people on the upper decks of the lobby, or the architectural "figures"?

(Similar to Comcast's lobby feature) Beautiful building. Can't wait to see the construction thread in the "Supertall Construction" section!

Thanks for sharing that Summer, you sure are a busy person these days!

I love that there are two green roofs on this baby too! Green roofs are by far my favorite feature in modern architecture.

Obviously until it's under construction it's not definitely getting built, but are there any outstanding political or financial hurdles holding up ground breaking?

Not sure but reading through the thread I'm under the impression that this thing is pretty likely to go up and probably start construction this summer.

Nope. It has full zoning approvals, full financing and tenant commitment by Comcast to take 80% of the office space. The only other things in city council now have to do with the extension of the underground tunnel to suburban station. This thing is 100% go, set for groundbreaking in June. The only thing that could stop this project is literally an implosion of Comcast in which they would cease to exist as a company. They desperately need the space.

There are some of us who actually would LOVE to see that happen!!

I love this building and I hope it gets built, but Comcast as a company just sucks... Sorry...

Back to this building, I can't wait for this thing to be erected. I'm looking forward to the proposed Top Floor restaurant opening.

It's true Comcast does suck but at least they build large skyscrapers in Philadelphia so hey, I guess they're good for something.

Latest issue of Philadelphia Magazine (print magazine - not yet posted online) contains an interview with Brian Roberts. He discusses Comcast's transformation from cable, Philadelphia, the new building and Foster's personal interest in it. Exciting, actually.

Actually, 2nd I believe. COMCAST was listed in the "Supertall Construction" first. Even though it didn't break or reach that "1000" foot status. It just made it "under the gun" before the moderators happen to make it law, that it MUST be a 1000 foot. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

The saving grace(IMO) of the design of this tower is the fact that the East and West elevations project out some feet from the core and tapper as the tower raises toward the top. This helps create a sense of balance; if it did not it would appear top heavy. At dusk when this tapered element is not so evident the outline can look clumsy.

If the concern is more with the fact that it is all glass with no stone like One & Two Liberty Place I agree mostly with that issue. The earlier designs which had stone spandrels would have been more satisfying (IMO).

Until the building of Comcast Center the only tall all glass tower I can think of was the PNC building at 16th and Market. The PNC building is not a rectilinear glass box but an octagon with the north/south sides longer so it is an appealing design I think. But Philadelphia had a long and rich history of brick and stone whether in all masonry construction or steel/RIC framing. All through the 60s, 70s glass towers were the fashion and we missed out on it(which I always thought was just fine since many times these buildings are referred to as non buildings which can blend into the sky).

But what Comcast is doing for Philadelphia is akin to the role the Pennsylvania Railroad had 100 years ago. So when I resent my $200+ monthly bill(I have 4 Comcast services) I think about the economic and architectural impact they have on the city and become a little less agitated.

I thought Supertalls were 300 meters. In that case, Comcast would have just made it. 300 meters = 984 feet.

Comcast is just under what constitutes as a "Supertall". I still don't consider a building a Supertall unless it is 1,000 ft or higher, none of this 984 feet BS
