Common sense. The stadium is still a skeleton with no seats, no field, concourse is a cavern, no suites, etc. IGF looked further along in the summer of '12 than THF does a few months before kickoff. Sorry but this is the same song and dance we heard in Winnipeg. The people who call the shots in Hamilton deserve this for being dumb enough to build on the same footprint as the old stadium. Who builds a stadium in one year?

It might happen one day but unfortunately unlikely in our lifetime.

Your common sense and no facts. According to FieldTurf it takes 27 days to install a field (the field itself) and another 27 or so to prepare a base if not already completed. Edmonton installed 2500 seats a week, I don't know if that is fast or slow but that would equate to nine weeks for Hamilton.

Who builds a stadium in one year? BMO Field!

You know as much about construction as I do. ZERO! Let's let the experts do the scheduling. No one has said the stadium is going to be six weeks late. They've said the worst thing that could happen would be six weeks late and they are confident it will be done on time. Whether that happens or not we'll see.

I've been a commercial and industrial construction worker for a long time. There is no need to panic.

They're behind because the ground is still too hard to dig. A delay in starting an aspect of the overall project does not necessarily mean that the finish point will also get bumped ahead by the same amount of time. Nor does a delay in one part cause delays in others. Plus, it's very easy to make up for lost time in construction. I know that there are a lot of tradesmen out there waiting for work so night shifts are most certainly on the way. As well, there may be a lot of cosmetic work that doesn't need to be finished before games can be played.

Wait till the end of April to see how things are progressing. There will be a MUCH clearer picture then.

I'll still give Hamilton an outside chance of opening the stadium sometime in September. PRetty close to that 6-week thing. BUt it's looking more and more likely that it won't be competed until late fall/early winter at the earliest.

And you base that on what timeline? Seeing as so many people here are privy to the schedule and I'm not, I'd like to know what won't be completed.

I'm basing it on IGF and how that appeared to be further along in March of 2012 that's what.

Also do you think Winnipeg could get a WHL team anytime soon? It would be great for the people who can't afford the jets game. Or is Winnipeg fine with just an NHL team
I have never seen CUC full for a Blades game, even back when it only seated 13,000. The team can draw 11,000 when they bring in Gordie Howe for a pregame ceremony or honour Jordin Tootoo for his performance in the World Juniors (despite playing for Brandon in that game), but most people in Saskatoon seem to be too burnt by the team to go to a game and on average they'll play in a 1/4 filled arena most nights. You can really see the age of the building on those nights, like with half of a few sections in the lower bowl being upgraded seats with the rest remaining the same, poor quality blue plastic seats. You can also tell the arena has been expanded twice in its history because the concourse is packed to the point of uncomfort anytime there is an event with 7,000+ people (although the new upper level concourse they built a few years ago really helps with the conjestion).

genuinely curious. did they work saturdays and sundays and double daily shifts at IGF. thats currently occurring at THF. if you look at the webcam today (sunday) there are workers on site.

They're really serious about opening this thing on time. I can see it opening partially finished but still operable by the first scheduled game. I can see all amenities and it being 100% operable by labour day

Good news, I hope people don't shat on it as much as THF.

Probably not. I think it will cost a lot more than THF I just don't remember the cost.

Is that why it seems like some Winnipeg people are crapping on this, because their project was a screwup and they want to make someone else look bad. Sure seems that way. Why are some people determined to get this project off to a bad start. Bad karma, Winnipeg still has some big bills to pay for that nice stadium.

I don't think it's the cost (almost double), people will whine if the design isn't as flamboyant as the concept design (which it probably won't be).

Frankly if it looks like Red Bull Arena I'll be a little disappointed (it'll be nice but I'd like it to be original), but I'm not gonna — on it for the rest of its existence. It will be what it will be.

That's about how I see it. If they play the first game there, it's on time AFAIC. And I think that's what the discussions are now, can we play this game at less than 100%

I'd have to look back but I don't remember anything like that with Winnipeg, I just remember the roof causing delays although wasn't there a report that steel was late getting the project off to a late start, but I could be wrong, relying on memory.

Don't recall Winnipeg having discussions about holding games in an uncompleted stadium, don't think it was possible but I'd have to look back.

I sincerely doubt this information will impact on the discussions here on this national forum, but here goes……

The city of Moncton has just issued an RFP for bids on the construction of a new downtown arena and events centre, to be built on the site of the former Highfield Square shopping mall.

This is the link to the RFP overview:
http://www.moncton.ca/Assets/Business+English/Downtown+Centre_ENG/deloitterfppresentation.pdf

The outline calls for an arena with minimum fixed seating for 7,500 (including 20 corporate boxes), retractable stands for optimal placement of staging for concerts, concessions and a game day restaurant.

The affordability cap calls for a maximum price tag of $95M, not including costs for the property (another $12.5M); so the overall cost of the project is in the order of $107.5M.

The new arena will be the home of the:
- Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
- Moncton Miracles of the National Basketball League of Canada

There is still some controversy over the final seating count, as many interested parties in the city were lobbying for a 9,000 seat facility so we will see what the final outcome of this process will be.

The plans are that the new Moncton events centre would be open by August 2017.

At 7,500 fixed seats, the proposed events centre would be the 15th largest arena in the country (the current Moncton Coliseum is 6,800 seats which is #17). If a 9,000 seat facility is ultimately approved, it would be the 13th largest arena in Canada…….

That's great to hear! I'd definitely like to hear updates from this project as it moves forward

As it stands right now there is around $300M'ish allocated to the Regina stadium.

$80M Province
$25M Riders
$20M Riders (leasehold improvements)
$100M loan from province
$73M City of Regina

Well, from my uneducated opinion I've posted industry timelines that show it can be done which is more than the uneducated shatters do, they provide nothing at all except negative vibes.

I'm going by what real news is out there and what the people in the know are saying. If tomorrow they say we are actually six weeks behind, great, that's what I'll post, but we still don't know what is actually going on.

All we know is that they think it will be done in time but the worst thing that could happen is that it will be six weeks late. That doesn't mean it will be six weeks late as far as we know now.
