I would say realistically it will take a major company or individual to step forward and build a stadium for this to happen.

^How profoundly would a Saskatoon CFL team affect the Roughriders? Could they co-exist or would you end up with two mediocre franchises?

I'm from Ottawa and here's a quick sitrep on our "new" stadium. It's not new. It's half new and half patch job. There is no symmetry between new and old. The new half looks decent. The old half is like a pig with lipstick on it. The two sides share absolutely no common design themes. I think it will turn out fine, or perhaps a better term would be "good enough". But make no mistake this is just a reno done on the cheap. It's certainly nothing to boast about.

If it happened today, you'd likely have a team with support similar to the Stamps in Regina and one with support similar to Hamilton in Saskatoon. I suspect they'd both be viable, but it's wiser to wait a couple decades.

It will happen one day. Saskatoon is larger and growing faster than Regina. It will take a while before the idea gains momentum and they want a team playing in their own city. People in Saskatoon are loyal Rider fans today, but a tipping point will come where wanting football will outweigh that.

I can see a team in Saskatoon by 2040. The city will likely have close to 600,000 people there by then if they keep growing like they are. Regina will likely be at around 450,000.

There would probably be a fair amount of support for attending games and such, but it would definitely struggle on other levels. The Riders would continue to do alright, although probably not as well as they currently do, The Saskatoon team would also have a hard time converting fans; the Riders have become a symbol for the entire province and those with Saskatchewan roots living elsewhere. I'm from Saskatoon originally and would never think of ever converting for a second. You're not really going to get new fans by adding a team in Stoon either. It's not like the region is un(der)serviced by the CFL like some other regions.

I think the more likely scenario is that Saskatoon goes for a provincial NHL team.

No... If it happened today, you'd likely have a team with Saskatchewan support in Regina, and a team with Toronto support in Saskatoon.

I'd rather see Saskatoon get an NHL team as was originally planned when the Credit Union Centre was built, and Regina keep the Roughriders, so that both cities could have major sports attraction province-wide and have those things to be proud of in each city.

Saskatoon's population is 300 000, forecasted to reach 500 000 by the 2030s.

But no, a city of 300 000 has no businesses, just an NHL-sized arena since the 80s and 300 000 people walking around wondering what the sky is made of. My bet is on pudding.

Okay sorry. Tell you what, come back in 2030 and ask the NHL for a team. The answer will still be no because your market will still be too small.

Their arena was only 2/3 full during last years Memorial Cup - even when the home team was in the tournament.

I appreciate the hard work the players put in and all that other stuff, but at the end of they day who the hell cares about the CHL

These kids play their heart out because they are still chasing their
Dreams of playing in the NHL. Once they get there and are making
their millions, it seems that their level of intensity drops. Your saying
you would rather watch the Canucks ( who stink) over the #1 ranked
Jr Team in the country -Kelowna Rockets....I guess our definitions of
"good" hockey don't mix.

Although I'd love for Saskatchewan to get an NHL team you have to wonder why Saskatoon (of 250K) or Regina (of 200K) would get a team before Hamilton (800K) or Quebec City (800K)...

I didn't mean it to be so condescending sounding, I meant it literally in the sense that most people don't follow it.

I don't know, it's hard for me to support the Giants when we already have an NHL team in the city. I don't care if they suck, I'll only cheer on my home team. If I lived somewhere like Brandon, then I'd probably follow it more closely, but here in Vancouver I have no reason to watch WHL. I've never noticed the intensity thing that people bring up, and seeing as they're both private corporations I have no connection to (unlike a university for example) I'm gonna pick what I consider better hockey.

It's strange that the north end of the east grandstand is still missing. You can see it at 1:14 of the video.
