The Puck Block was at 114 S Los Angeles Street... news of some alterations:

GW beat me to it! In 1898, Craig, Stuart & Co. was at 112 S. Los Angeles - I think the number "112" is just visible to the left of the word "CRAIG" on the façade. I've included the other grocers as there are some familiar names in the list.

You can tell it's a Packard by the hexagonal stampings in the wheel hubs and by the radiator shape. The mirror-looking thing is a windshield, and I suppose that's just a jumpseat on the running board. Must be a custom body.

I've had this oddity in one of my files for quite some time.

It says Hollywood Calif on the truck, but North Hollywood at lower right.
To be honest, I thought this was a girl at first. I was mislead by the banana curls.

Apparently there's a book by Paul Hennessey, "Tin Horn Hank Keenan and the World's Youngest Cowboy," published in 1993, " a rip roaring biography of Keenen and his son Carl, trick riders, bronc busters and rodeo clowns."

We've see other posts here on this thread about the time Howard Hughes crashed is failing aircraft into a couple of houses on North Linden Drive in Beverly Hills while heading for the LA Country Club, but I don't recall seeing this one. It was a lot more cinematic when they recreated it for "The Aviator"!

LA County Assessor says it was built in 1893; has 5 beds, 2 baths and is 4,488 sq ft.

Thanks for the info on this one! One of the truly great unsung Victorians of Los Angeles. This city-commissioned report on the historic buildings of Boyle Heights also says the house may have some sort of "possible association with the Japanese American community." Wonder what that's about.

Presumably this refers to 2616--if so, the Assessor is off by four years (there seems to be a good deal of guesswork in that office's efforts).

Here's an exterior view I just found of the Elizabeth Arden store at 3933 Wilshire Blvd. on the corner of Gramercy Place, next to what looks like quite a dandy bar called “The Bachelors.” Maybe the husbands hung out there while the wives got massaged and facialed and gussied up at Elizabeth Arden. This photo is circa 1935.

If you glance out the driver's window as you travel south on the 405 to LAX you'll notice what looks a bit like a water tower
with cascading water in front of it.

Looking south from Witmer and Wilshire you have a good vantage point of the old Mayfair Hotel on 7th Street.

Assuming that's the original house at 1298 Wilshire (originally Orange St), which from the roofline it appears to be, it was lived in in the late '90s until at least 1909 by Frederick E. Fay, who was the secretary-treasurer of his father Elon's Empire Steam Laundry. (The Fay house was robbed in June 1899.) By 1911 it appears to have become a boarding house.

I still haven't seen a vintage shot of the house across Witmer from it.
