I don't think it will take as long as the Bow, because they are not putting any of the Parkade under the roads.

You're right about me not being local- I am a Bostonian, and a lot of my of my issues with above-ground garages (and especially ground-level parking) come from their being quite the number of garages and such around town. While some feature some degree of ground-level retail, many have only minimal retail presence or none at all. They are a negative on the pedestrian experience and I'd hate to see that in a city as beautiful as Calgary.
Well, key is definitely that there still must be ground-level retail. Would certainly not want to see a parkade in place of retail.

Of course, there is also the issue of how a parkade would affect the atrium of such a building so I won't deny there are potential issues...I think my frustration stems from the fact that here in Calgary we have very deep parkades (usually 5 or 6 underground parkade levels) and it takes an insanely long time to build the underground levels of these towers...whereas something like Guardian or Colours has the parking split between parking underground and incorporated into the podium. I think such an arrangement can look well, if properly done.

So Brookfield Place might not get above ground for another year or two? >.<

Probably not! It'll be a little faster than that getting above ground.... but when it's all said and done, what's the hurry! This building will be completed (3.5 yrs.) just about the time the rental market picks up again!

It should be above ground some time between a year or two. I would guess about 16 months. They are digging fast, and we are just coming out of winter, so things should speed up.

Yeah they're not doing too bad. Looks like at least 4 feet over the last 2 weeks in the southern half of the site, possibly more in the northern.

They've gone down another 4 feet or so over the past week.

Also, let's take a refresher of how great this building is going to be

I know it's not as awesome as Telus Sky, but I am still pretty excited to see this thing get built. It's a simple but elegant building.

30-40 years from now this building will still look good.... one of the nice things about being simple yet elegant!

The access ramp has been reconfigured, moved from the centre of the site to the far east of the site. Excavation at the northern end of the site looks to be about 2/3 of the way down (total depth will be 22 meters).

first of all i will say that i really like this tower. however, i hope both towers are built and as soon as possible. i say this for the sake of the location. incomplete projects are always just that. i believe that the street life at its base will suffer for the entire time that it takes to complete the original concept.

I might be dreaming, but it looks to me like they are flattening out the bottom at the Brookfield Place site. It doesn't look like it's more than 15 meters down though, the excavation was supposed to be 22 meters.
