More accurately, they are winding down their Canadian operations. The American Big Lots stores remain unaffected.

First I've heard of it, and first I've heard of Harvard Developments from Regina being involved in that development.

Nice job... you have just given Murray McNeill his Monday column

I've visited the area this afternoon, some new buildings closer to Sterling Lyon under construction. Pita Pit, Taco Del Mar and Subway are COMPLETELY DEAD, although Cabelas and Fatburger had some people around!

How many people go to eat in the afternoon?

Subway downtown is completely dead at 2pm as well.

The Outlets of Seasons is very interesting for a few reasons.

1 - Established development names attached to the web site suggest it is credible.
2 - The same site was previously being marketed by Cadallic Fairview who seem to no longer be attached to the project.
3 - None of the established outlet mall companies have their name attached to this project.
4 - There is rumours that the Assiniboine Downs retail development is at outlet mall.

That said Tanger and RioCanada announced a plan to open an outlet mall in the Winnipeg market in the 2016 to 2018 time frame back in 2011. At the time the thinking was the area around Seasons of Tuxedo was going to be the most desired location if they could secure the space needed.

Further, as previously mentioned an outlet mall in Winnipeg is likely to be home to Off 5th/HBC Outlet and possibly Nordstorms Off the Rack with HR2 being a real long shot.

It's interesting that Seasons of Tuxedo has gone from some pseudo-upscale boutique mall to what essentially appears to be a copy of the typcial Simon Premium Outlet layout:

Winnipeg can probably only support one or two such malls, so the race is on among developers to get their foot in the door first. Given that the developers of this one don't appear to have much of a track record relative to the Tangers and Simons of the world, they have their work cut out for them.

So, the Property and Development Committee decided to sell off the snow dump at Kenaston without the cravat that it be Employable Land... A big step forward for Complete Communities. Look for the addition of another retailer at this location.

Quote:
Despite this, the property and development committee approved the plan and only moved the first of three of the Assiniboine Community Committee’s recommendations for the development.

The first being keeping the development open to public tenders. The other two, a 60-meter right-of-way to include future road development and identifying the lands, as Employment Lands under the OurWinnipeg were dismissed.
Source (sorry it's the Winnipeg Rag)

What does 'Employable Land' mean? Nothing comes up on Google.

Employment Land apparently in Winnipeg -- here is a report on it.

Generally speaking, Havixbeck wants it to be an office park rather than more commercial. She thinks it will relieve some of the traffic issues, which it may -- I'm no engineer.

Anybody ever been into a chain called Peavey Mart? They are a western Canada chain of what looks like a upscale Princess Auto.

I see that they are getting ready to open their first Winnipeg store in the old McDermid lumber outlet in front of the Princess Auto store / head office on Panet Road.

Never heard of them. According to their website, they were originally affiliated with the Minneapolis company, but are now headquartered in Red Deer.

Looks like a combination Princess Auto / Farm Supply store.

Its interesting that for their first Winnipeg store they decided to go head to head with Princess Auto.

I like that they have had a semi trailer billboard across from the Princess Auto parking lot saying coming soon for the last two months or so. I wonder if they will be competitive price wise with Princess on the name brand products?

I noticed they sell Husqvarna power saws - that is a very high end product. Princess normally deals with lower price points.

Power Fist is not a name brand product. Mr. Talman is well aware of 'who's moving in across the street'. Doesn't appear worried.

I don't really get Princess Auto. Do they sell autoparts? I never bought any from there.

Just a random assortment of obscure tools and such. Always seems like the flyers have some weird thing that nobody ever needs. But I guess they're doing well.

I like princess. I have bought quite a few things there over the years -- tools mostly. Some good quality, some very low. It's pretty hit and miss though. They don't always have what you need. But if they do, it's cheaper than Cdn Tire.
