Well, I can pretty much guarantee everyone I won't be shopping here. Too pricey, from what I hear, and my low expectations for life makes lesser stores palatable for me.

Still, I'm sure it will be shiny and beautiful, and filled with only the highest-grade peoples.

There is no way the feds will hand over $200 million plus for a Nfl stadium.

I would have to say fake/pipe dream. I can't see Montreal putting $400 million into the big owe. By 2026 the place with be 50 years old and have been without a regular tenant for decades.

Even the group dreaming of bringing baseball back to that city have said it would require a new stadium.

No, but Queen's Park might. And I have heard, as I'm sure many others have, that the NFL might be interested in expanding to Toronto.

We are bidding for the 2026 FIFA World cup, and these new/renowed stadiums aren't all that far fetched but I don't think they've chosen the cities/venues yet though. I would like to point out that the second picture of Ottawa's TD Place is a concept rendering of 2-3 years ago and not the final design, so that might be proof of fakery or just plain incompetence.

Anyway, according to Wikipedia (with plenty of sources);

What some in Toronto don't seem to get is it can't be all about them if we are serious then Canada needs to be ready to spend billions not just on stadiums but on roads/hotels etc.

Fake or not, it's not extremely far fetch.

The parts that are questionable are

1) The "NFL" stadium in Toronto.
-No real prospect of a team at this point. NFL is more likely to go to places like LA first. NFL experiment in Toronto with the Bills did not go exceptionally well.

2) The Big O in Montreal.
-No permanent tenant for this place. Arguments to build stadiums can be iffy at best. With no tenant there is really little argument to spend money.

3) Halifax Stadium
-This is the most probable of the improbable. Depends on future CFL expansion.

4) Whether Regina can handle an event that sized
-They do the Grey Cup but there is a real love for football out there that makes homestays and stuff more possible.

The rest of proposal is fairly reasonable and actually some of the cost estimates are probably a bit high if anything.

That bottom pic was one of the unsuccessful concepts. Notice there is no wood veil. Also note symmetry they achieved with the roofing on both sides. Makes it look almost kinda like a "new" stadium. But yeah, we're not getting that. We're getting an eclectic hack job of a cheap reno

It would have been alot cheaper to build a new stadium.

The major problem in Ottawa is that we would need a " hospitality village", which I assume accommodations for athletes, within 150 meters of the stadium. We have no more room at Lansdowne and I doubt we'll be able to build much across the street/canal.

Up in the Artic when they have big conferences they bring in floating hotels now yes there is a difference between the canal and a ocean but maybe that would one thing to atleast look at.

I could see a joint bid with the US being viable (or maybe a North America bid with Mexico) but I can't imagine a) governments in Canada being willing to make the multi-billion dollar investment necessary (BC place is probably the only stadium currently suitable for hosting matches the rest require elaborate temporary seating and/or major renovations or totally new construction) b) FIFA choosing 112th ranked Canada over established soccer powerhouses like Mexico or Colombia or a huge market like the US. I would rather see an olympic bid.

Canada certainly seems like a longshot from the outset, for all the reasons you have said. But if the CSA waits for stadia to be built, or for the team to move up into the top 50 in the rankings before they bid - well they may never end up bidding. Take the chance with the application and it may get some of the other pieces worked on.

Not so fast..the Bills owner died yesterday and the team may be sold if no one in the Wilson family takes over.

I agree that there are cities in the States that are clear front runners (LA for one, maybe others) but with the proximity to Toronto and the relationship in the past, I wouldn't count Toronto out just yet assuming there is a legit group of buyers.

I know the NFL dearly wants to get back into LA, but having the Bills move literally up the road to Toronto can't be easily dismissed.

Ralph Wilson was smart enough to put a clause in the new 10-year lease that the Bills could not relocate within the first 8 years of the deal. After that, pretty big fines to get out early.

I'm hoping the NFL stays out of Canada.
Love both Leagues, but I'd rather keep the NFL out of Canada.

As an outsider, albeit one who has lived in Ottawa, I have to say I am pretty disappointed with the final design of Lansdowne. There are some great things about the design (some of the park space, added density, the architecture of the new south stands) but the retail area is really lacking any sense of place. It just looks like a big box development comprised of chain stores in the centre of Ottawa. Much more could have been done with this site's tremendous potential.
