Even though Jimmy Pattison can throw in any of the brands of supermarket he owns, in order to attract better clientele to those condos constructed above, I think it will not be a low-end brand. Definitely Nesters, Urban Fare, or Meinhardt's, and I hope it's the latter.

Yes that makes sense. I wish it would look higher end than the generic Save-on-foods found in most locations. Urban Fare is expensive but it feels warmer inside, and aesthetically pleasing.
FWIW bulk prices at Urban Fare Yaletown are the same as Save-On around Cambie & 7th. I'm not sure about the generic western family brand products, but they could be the same too.
Either the perspective is off, or the low rise portion of this design needs work. The resi tower is less than a bun toss distance from the cheese wedge office building.

Southern Downtown area is experiencing such a renaissance in only 5 years. We are currently halfway into the transformation and so much greatness is still coming to that area in few years! It is all very exciting both from cityscape and skyline perspective.

I actually wanted to see this site developed into a regional multi-storey shopping mall and entertainment complex as this is the last large parcel available anywhere downtown in a proper city block, and that the owner Jimmy Patterson is able to pull off. Too bad it isn't so but this will still be a very decent project. Now I rest my other hope on the Pacific/Howe project for my thirst of a grandeur downtown project.
I hope I won't get burned at the stake for saying this, but the design for this is such a bore. Why does it seem like every building in Vancouver is going from the same basic design? Lots of generic blue glass, white/grey metal siding and as many balconies as is possible. Can't they come up with anything new? -_-
^^Seems like you're like a lot of people on SSP just regurgitating the same critique for the sake of critique. Nothing wrong with balconies, metal cladding or glass. The project fails for entirely different reasons, such as the contrived effort to make the tower look different from every angle (Vancouver trademark), the arbitrariness of the design gestures (even the curvy Bing Thom part), and the fact that such a rare large parcel doesn't have a bigger urban narrative/gesture beyond the usual kit of parts (setbacks, human scale, blah blah blah)

Melbourne surely has some impressive architecture, but I found the streetscape pretty boring and way too car-oriented. I do love their streetcar system (and especially that free loop line), but they surely do love sprawl Down There.
But yes, architecture wise we could learn from them. I wonder how they are affording to have such impressive buildings? I that area also resource-rich like NSW and Queenland?

Lots of Asian investments, especially from Southeast Asia. The city is also blessed with a very open-minded city council and progressive residents, unlike here.
Imagine how far the Burrard development can go without all those constraints and west end nimbyism?
