I know that the old Olgivy store was knocked down last March because I saw it on Youtube when a guy was filming the Rideau cinemas. The building has been closed down for over 20 years. My mother use to shop there. There was a parking lot. With construction going on, I cannot even enter in Nicolas and Besserer street to go inside the Rideau Centre. I think that a Simon's start is going in the expansion and some mythical movie theaters. I saw that the Old Navy is going near Shopper's Drug Mart which looks like the top floor. The Nordstrom will be located on the top floor where the Sears building once stood and the food court will be in the basement of the Sears building. I think that Zara and H&M will be located in the expansion site. For the former Rideau cinemas, the constructors are building temporary offices. I contacted the manager about the Rideau centre expansion. That is all I know.

the book has no title yet and will only be complete in late 2016 - early 2017. it'll coincide with the opening of the rideau centre expansion/facade remount. so far the book is at 60 pages and should be double by the time its completed. the more i find the better. so far i've got 2 years of research into it. in the meantime, head over to www.facebook.com/charlesogilvyltd and see what i've been doing on there.

I learned of a few new updates regarding the expansion recently. Work is expected to start on the bridge connecting the Bay and the Rideau Centre in March (the east bridge, closer to the new expansion) and last around 6 months at which point they will start work on the second, smaller one. I am not the biggest fan of those bridges so it will be interesting to see how they are transformed. Work is also expected to start soon (March or April I think) on the Mackenzie King entrance and last up to a year. I believe access to the building will happen through the transit station entrance as the Mackenzie King one is completely rebuilt. Should be interesting to see how that single entrance handles all of the traffic. There will be 6 new retail locations in addition to the new food court on the first level of where Sears used to be. I don't know what the new retailers will be but have heard that Eddie Bauer is potentially on the move down there.

I saw old photos of the Charles Olgivy store. It was quite a nice looking building. I thought that the Olgivy store sold nice stuff. I went to the Olgivy's in Montreal and I bought a nice pink silk blouse. As I looked at the Rideau Centre expansion for where Simon's, Zara, and Ted are supposed to be located, it looks like that they are keeping the type of facade like the old windows and the bricks of the Olgivy store. It is good that they kept the foundation. Remains of that building should never go to waste.

Ogilvy's in Montreal is actually a whole different business run by a whole different family. I believe they are now merging with Holt Renfrew (or something to that effect).

What is shown as "Ted's" will be a Joey's restaurant and it, along with Simon's will be behind original Ogilvy's bricks (1916 bricks replicating 1908 façade), windows and detailing. The cornice and medallion on the rounded corner will be replicas.

The foundations are gone and will be replaced with new ones as they are also building a parking garage under the whole site, which is likely the main reason for the demolition of the Ogilvy.

I noticed that too. Wouldn't that cause a bit of a dip when you're going into a store?

Just curious whether anyone else has noticed this - I was at the Rideau Centre last week and nearly broke my neck while walking on those new tiles. Is it just me or are they dangerously slippery?

I kind of liked the early-2000s renovations. The overall design of the new interior is too sterile IMO.

While I generally like to give half-done things a fighting chance to move far enough along, I so far have been very unimpressed by the Rideau Centre improvements.

I find the new floors look and feel cheap. Certainly not as nice as the past renovation's tile work.

Aside from maybe Simons most of the new stores really don't impress me either. The lions share seem to either be very expensive or just places I wouldn't really shop at.

I also find the way they have gone about the change over is also terrible. The mall has been turned into the land of drywall instead of doing different areas at different times (for instance the old sears had been empty for some time before much was done to it)

I noticed the other day they just closed the Mackenzie King entrance again (presumably for renos). They just did a bunch of work on that one a year or two ago. Would it not have made more sense to do everything in one go?

I haven't been inside Rideau for a few months, but based on the pictures and what I've been hearing, they've been doing a poor job at working around people.

I visited Bayshore a few times during the renos and although the work being done is obvious, the place was still clean and the work did not seem to obstruct customers' experience.

I think Oxford is doing a great job with Les Promenades; there plan of action seems to be concentrating on parts of the mall by shutting down sections at a time (as suggested by c speed).
