I really like The Cascade, but I LOVE the original version. That would be so fantastic if they built the foundation with the ability to support the 415' version. I agree with Toyz, if it was built at 415 it might very well be my favorite tower as well. SO SEXY at that height.

Well if 111s does become COBS and if Goldman Sachs moves to 145s then I see both those towers filling up very fast making room for about the same office demand we have right now that would call for Tower 8 to move forward. Five Towers by 2019 maybe.

I know it is vague but even being that vague, it won't be worse than Phoenix, so as Wrendog prognoticates..."We are getting a Phoenix".

If I find out anything that I can share, I will do so. For now, above is all I know about design.
Sounds good so far. I kind of get the same feeling from your description that I felt when looking at the renderings of the new airport for the first time.

Wouldn't that be a kick Projects, yet I don't think it's that far from reality. The overwhelming feeling I keep getting from all of these announcements and growth patterns, is that Salt Lake's CBD will continue to accelerate it's growth. It's feeling as if it will continue to exceed our expectations.

Great Pic DCRes! This demolition is so massive and complete, it's beginning to remind me of Crossroads and ZCMI demolition/City Creek pre-construction.

Approximately $8 million—spread over four years—will be available for distribution according to a short-term impact formula.
Why is this even a concern? I don't have an issue with the CCH using tax dollars and it being a government owned and operated, but why should there be an $8 mil slush fund for Holding and other multi mil for profit businesses?

So let me get this straight, they bitch and moan and put up roadblock after roadblock about approval and construction of CCH and then get a payday? Holding has held up project after project and land banked for decades to the detriment of downtown and now get funds for being shortsighted and not building closer to the Salt Palace?

The jump in damage cost in addition to someone stating that the building is a complete loss made me think that the foundation/parking garage was damaged and they would need to redo that as well. When I drove by though, it looks nice, although what can I really tell driving by quickly in a car, especially since I know nothing about concrete. I hope that they can start building again, but I am concerned that they may not be done clearing away the wreckage.
I'd assume the concrete is OK. My worry would be the hold-down ties for the shear walls that were embedded in the concrete. In house construction, those straps can only be bent back once then connected to the walls. I would assume removing the wood would basically make those hold-downs worthless and new anchors would have to be drilled. This would not warrant concrete replacement but some engineering redesign and changes would probably be necessary. Just my engineer brain spit balling.

While I'm not a fan of Holdings and how they have land banked and held up the CCH for several years, and while they were the biggest vocal opponent against TIF for the Convention Space, I don't have a problem with the fund.

The legislators that have always supported the CCH and the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau has continually expressed the opinion that all hotels will experience more total room nights because of the CCH rather than lose any. I have always been in that same camp, a rising sea lifts all boats. If it takes this "concession" in the language of the bill to get the Hotel & Lodging association behind the bill then I'm all for it. If the CVB is right the fund will never even be touched.

For many years, I have always thought that one thing that 9th and 9th was missing was bar of some sorts. I'm glad to see one coming to the area.

It was postponed to allow City Creek Reserve and Property Reserve to recoup some of the money they spent on CCC as a whole. Postponing it allows them to sell the units in the other three towers and recoup some of that money. I estimate that The Cascade will start to rise above the current 2 levels when the other units are at around 60-80% sold, depending on how fast the units are selling and how long it will take to construct the Cascade. I do a monthly update on the sold units on the City Creek Thread http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=174928&page=312

As of the February update the total units sold/reserved were; 249 of 426; 58%.

My updates are based on the City Creek Living website.

BTW, welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting.

Just an FYI-- any bar in the 9th and 9th area will require city approvals similar to the proposed BrewHaHa. If you want to know more about how that ended up, google it. We will see if there are similar results with this proposal.

Oh NIMBY's are so much fun. How they slay me. We are dealing with some NIMBY's in my neighborhood for a zoning change from R 1-7000 to R 1-5000. I never realized people could get so riled up about something so innocuous.

It's all about demystifying density. Far too many people have a knee-jerk reaction against anything that would remotely deviate from the typical single-family house because it evokes images of crowds, crime, and loud noise.

It is a great location for a neighborhood bar...it's got such a sense of community anyway, it's really prime.
