All of those types of palms are imported, they're not native to the area. And yes, there are that many imported palms. The only native palms in California are the Washingtonia filifera type usually found at desert oasis, like Palm Springs and Twentynine Palms.

Those tall palms are all washingtonias - the tallest palms in LA. The city has said it will no longer plant non-native palms on streets and highways but they still plant them on ventura blvd. Some parts of LA are littered with palms and some parts are palm-free. The taller ones are 60-80 years old.

Sort of. There are two species of Washingtonias, robusta and filifera. Only the filifera is native to California. The Washingtonia robusta is the imported Mexican fan palm, it has a narrower trunk, and that's what lines many streets in LA. The oldest ones still standing in the city were planted in 1875.

80% of LA is full of Palm trees, they are very beautiful, I doubt they will stop planting palms.

Looks like they added another concrete pump for the low rise section. Haven't seen any inspection reports yet if there were any problems with the concrete curing properly, and doesn't look like they are removing any of it yet.

when did this happen? i hope you're kidding, LA is famous for our tall palms! i can hardly notice a difference between the california and mexican fan palms. can someone elaborate?

LA might be famous for it but they're some of the most functionally useless trees in existence. They look pretty from your car but they don't provide any benefits for people who have to walk on the sidewalks.
