Great news Makid, thanks for sharing. Now it doesn't appear that there is any possible reason it won't pass and we won't see significant movement on the new CCH soon.

While I agreed with the legislation last year I do like that they threw a bone to the rural legislators and even found a way to get the Utah Hotel & Lodging Association to approve. Well done legislators.

As Wrendog has said, we all know where getting "a Phoenix" Wrendog: setting CCH expectation low since February 2014.

Okay now Makid, Now that approval of the Hotel is a given, how about you working your spy magic on what the scuttlebutt is regarding the design. I know we've talked about it before a little. What's the latest? Are they talking strictly utilitarian, or are they going to make CCH an attraction in and of itself?

I have heard that they would like a building that will remind people of Salt Lake when they leave and be inviting when they arrive. The design would want to encourage people to come back as well.

I know it is vague but even being that vague, it won't be worse than Phoenix, so as Wrendog prognoticates..."We are getting a Phoenix".

If I find out anything that I can share, I will do so. For now, above is all I know about design.

I think a lot of what will determine the CCH's height, whether it's two towers, it's style, etc., will be whether it's a Hilton, Grand Hyatt, Marriott, Omni, Sheraton, etc.

Each hotel company has their own style of skyrise hotel that they build.

So I think once we know who's name is going to be on the building, that will tell us a lot about its potential height, style and overall look.

New beer tavern in works for Salt Lake City’s 9th and 9th neighborhood

Scott Evans, owner of Pago and Finca restaurants, is proposing a new culinary project in the 9th & 9th area of Salt Lake City — a neighborhood bar.

The Liberty Tap Room, 850 E. 900 South, would have a small tavern where guests can enjoy a beer without ordering food, but also a dining area where Chef Phelix Gardner will offer classic pub fare using local and seasonal ingredients.

Evans has applied for a beer-only tavern license with the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control — which is easier to get than a club license.

Evans, who said there are no bars or clubs in the area, hopes to open for business in late April or May.

As he did with Pago, Evans plans to keep the charm of the historic 1920s building by using reclaimed materials for the bar tops and seating.

"It will be a nice place," he said. "A good neighborhood watering hole."

As I was re-reading the last sentence in my previous post it got me thinking. This time next year we could realistically have three tower cranes in the sky above the City, 111, 145 and CCH. Depending on how the CCC condos sell during this real estate season, while those three are still up The Cascade could add a fourth.

The "Big Three" by 2016! Maybe even Four by 2016 if ( as you said ) the Casade moves forward. Underground and base have already been finish, crews would place a crane and begin on level three during the first day.

Before we get back to bicker and argue, bicker and argue, I was wondering if anyone had any news of the Newhouse Apartments. I assume all the rubble has been cleared, was the basement salvageable? Any timetable on when this one will rise again?

I think everyone should turn off your computers, go outside, and get some fresh air, big deep breaths. And then go take pictures of new developments, lots of them. Post them here. Then we'll have something to talk about, instead of bicker and argue, and bicker and argue.

I just drove by there on my way home from Trader Joe's a few hours ago. It looks almost like they just poured the concrete. The site looks pristine. I imagine they would be starting pretty soon.

I have been wondering about the foundation/parking garage. Originally they put the damage around 2 million and then about a week after the fire they listed it as around 6 million in damage. The article I read also said that the building was a complete loss. The jump in damage cost in addition to someone stating that the building is a complete loss made me think that the foundation/parking garage was damaged and they would need to redo that as well. When I drove by though, it looks nice, although what can I really tell driving by quickly in a car, especially since I know nothing about concrete. I hope that they can start building again, but I am concerned that they may not be done clearing away the wreckage.

It was either 32 or 34 at around 410FT.

If cascade was built at 400' it would probably be my favorite tower.

What about the tower by Harmons (tower 8)? Is that totally dead? If not, we could have 5 new towers in the next 5 years!
