Yes the panels for Place Louis Riel will be corten steel....the original horizontal stripes on the tower are also corten.

the rental suites inside are looking pretty nice.

Just wondering if there's any news on the proposed redevelopment of Pantages Playhouse theatre from a while back (I vaguely remember something about a bistro that would face Main street).

Is it still likely to happen or has the plan been abandoned?

Any one familiar with a contemplated proposal for 1916-1920 St Mary's Rd? Still to go before City Council for rezoning purposes?

4 - 8-10 story apartment buildings.

There is no actual design in place to build anything on that site yet. The plans submitted to the City are to get the multiple parcel site rezoned into less fractured pieces and to try to permit the maximum amount of units possible. Once that is approved the owner will look at what he want to market. Some could say that this is a little backwards planning but I guess they want to proceed this way instead of having to submit an actual design and then have to redesign later to fit the allowed zoning.

Does the city have an allowance anywhere around there for a footbridge over the river to the U of M? Seems like a good time to create that allowance, no?

Also seems like a good opportunity to get something going along the river at that site and south of it to connect to the park and subdivision to the south. Wishful thinking, I'm sure, but probably the right time to consider those things.

Yes, Their zoning variance was rejected but did allow them to return with a re-design that may be more acceptable to the Urban Planning Division.

Let's see how this one goes.

Currently looking at redesign options to reduce costs. Governments have been resistant. Looking at other options.

I really enjoyed numberTEN's initial proposal. It suited Pantages. I'm sure you will find something equally as appealing within the constraints you are dealing with. Good luck. Hoping to see something soon if all falls into place.

Don't get the need for that footbridge, the U of M to what is essentially a subdivision, is the Bishop Grandin Bridge really that far.

^ Although it's an improvement over what currently exists there, I was never too crazy about that initial WSO proposal. It brings the right idea of putting a building on that wasted space at Market and Main, but it needs to be something that defines the street wall a bit instead of leaving an empty space that no one will ever use.

If this plan falls through, the silver lining is that something a bit more substantial could be built there when the time is right.

Active transportation? Would provide good access (and a more pleasing route) for cyclists and others from St. Vital to UM (and beyond). Compare with the Omands Creek rail/footbridge over the Assiniboine. St James bridge is close too, but the Omands crossing is well used and lends itself to cycling far better than the other bridge.

So where exactly does this active transportation (footbridge) go from the U of M? North side of campus to St. Amant (pretty close to Bishop Grandin Bridge already), east through the U of M agricultural land to a sub division, or south to another subdivision which is basically at the south perimeter.

Ya, but how does this help traffic flow?

^ A similar situation in north Winnipeg I thought would be a good place for a AT bridge. Frasers Grove Park (Kildonan Drive) across the Red to Kildonan Park. I was shot down saying Chief Peguis Trail is right there. Very similar travel distances.

It would provide way better access for people east of the river to get to Kildonan park, which has a large draw of people coming over. Much more inviting than the Chief crossing. Bishop is the same.

I support both projects. But the question is, how much? Likely around $10-$15M. Then everyone will be saying "Oh, won't somebody pleeeease think of my car?!"

Well, everyone is going to have a particular opinion on the initial Pantages proposal. In this particular case I don't find butting up a new extension from the theatre a particularily good solution in this instance and pushing it right up to the busy corner corner of Main/Market. It needs some gathering/meeting space.
Whatever transpires, as budget seems to be a major stumbling block at this time as mentioned, a proposal that is set back a ways from the street would be much more suitable in this particular location.
