I saw this great view of downtown Toronto on the local news the other day and took a pic.

I saw that on the National news too. Looks liken the helicopter was above the Bridle Path. Sunnybrook hospital can be seen in the foreground.

Actually it's an escarpment that defines a significant part of the geography of western Calgary, known as the Paskapoo Escarpment. I would imagine parts of it are over 100 meters above the valley and many of the slopes are 50 degrees or more. Some of the best shots of the skyline are taken from the top of the escarpment, particularly along Sarcee Trail.

This a one of those rare pictures that really show how Toronto's skyline is really becoming as impressive as Chicago's, even without supertall buildings. Impressive.

Even as recently as a decade ago that would have seemed like a crazy thing to say, but now it's very much a reasonable argument.

The hill to left is Broadcast Hill. Cougar Ridge, a community on top of the hill, is around 1235m. Parkdale, the community on the other side of the river, is around 1060m. So around 175m if you are measuring from the river.

By comparison, Nose Hill Park is about the same elevation (1230m) but measured from it's base it's only around 105m tall.

Wow, that's taller than the Niagara escapement which is about 154m (228m - 74m lake Ontario). And not that far off from Mount Royal at 227m (233 - 6m lowest point Montreal). Had no idea Calgary had that kind of escarpment. Would be nice to see more pictures of it or from it.

Indeed, although 3 of Chicago's 4 roof height supertalls aren't really all that much taller than the 900+ footers in Toronto. Most people looking the tallest buildings in both cities wouldn't notice that much of a difference in terms of skyline impact.

Canada Olympic Park is just around the curve (on the north face) of the hill. You can see the ski jump poking out above the hilltop. One can drive up from the TransCanada, between all the new facilities (incl. Canada's Sports Hall of Fame), and into Cougar Ridge.

OK, I'm glad London goes into the Ontario column!

That is a massive skyline for a city that's off the Radar 98% of the time on this board. When it does get on the board, its like wow!;


BTW: note to Kitchener, look at that skyline above!
