When has the Cafe Artigiano on Robson/Thurlow closed? Interesting that the location was able to host two Starbucks, but not Starbucks and Cafe Artigiano. I wonder what will open there next?

I think it was mentioned earlier that there was a note on the door from artigiano that the landlord was not being reasonable when it came to renegotiating the lease. I would assume they were looking for something that was too rich for what it was worth. That said there is a listing floating around out there for the entire building. Probably looking for a multinational or major retailer.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but any word on what's going into the corner space at the Carlyle redevelopment? I've noticed the windows have been covered up for the past couple of weeks, but no signage as to what's going in.

That corner has a vinyl 'wrap' of frosted Concord Pacific logos (They own this development). My sense is that nothing is signed for the location as yet, and Concord is just making it look prettier than leaving it with papered windows. Sweet location for someone with very deep pockets though.

Artigiano should have been smart enough to know that if Starbucks walked away from a successful location there was going to be trouble.

On a Starbucks note, I'm always suprised they don't take up the lease on that vacant strip mall storefront at Main and 41st. Corner location on two inbound a.m. rush routes, parking and no other competition in sight.

I am sure with that the landlord is hoping for someone to come along and pay for the reconstruction of that failing building. I wonder on the sephora deal on robson who is ponying up for the construction costs of the new building.

Interesting idea for the main and 41st corner. but I do believe that it is too dead outside of rush hour for them to justify it. I am wondering if that strip mall is just teeming to be bulldozed for a development of some sort although interesting that the building that was demolished across the street has had no activity on it since.

In other news, Target has said they have lost 1 billion so far on their Canadian operations

Yes I'm often through that 'hood mid-afternoon and it is indeed dead-as is most of Main St south of 33rd.

Anybody read Vancitybuzz's article on 8 Global Fashion Brands Vancouver is Missing ?

The eight brands they mentioned are:
- Primark
- Pull & Bear
- Mango
- Scotch & Soda
- Massimo Dutti
- Superdry
- Desigual
- Uniqlo

Seems like a couple of them are potentially headed to Vancouver in the foresee-able future such as Uniqlo. I'm really excited to see some of these stores open here along with Nordstrom already under construction !

I've heard Tevana is Starbux but when did they buy Artigiano?

Googled the heck out of this one and can find no evidence of Artigiano being owned or bought by Starbucks, there's no indication of this anywhere I can find. Perhaps someone shed light on this.

Artigiano has NO relation to Starbucks.

Artigiano was owned by the founders of 49th Parallel. They sold it to a private family group, one member of which used to work at Earls Corporate (hence many people believe they're owned by Earls). They're independent. They maintained their roasting relationship with 49th for some time, though I believe they now roast/source beans sans 49th.

artigiano has started a new roasting place: http://scoutmagazine.ca/2014/02/19/goods...no-roasting-co-debuts-three-new-coffees/

Quote:
To maintain Artigiano’s focus on creating the perfect cup of coffee, the chain opened a new roasting facility in Burnaby, B.C., and began roasting its own beans in the fall of 2012. Coffees are sourced globally through relationships with the best importers and producers the world of coffee has to offer.
also missing from vancouver:

diesel
g-star raw
all saints

and Joe fresh clothing is expanding/opening stores in 125 countries
