We might actually see four go up at the same time - 225W 57th, TV, 111W 57th and 220 CPS. There is another site assemblage on 57th rumored to be another super tall residential project, but the four aforementioned projects are much further underway.

I took count, this is the fourth supertall to get the green light this year along with Tower Verre, HY North Tower and 3WTC along with those already rising. Not to mention the already very exciting projects around the city: 56 Leonard, the Pyramid, Calatrava's PATH station, Zaha's building on the west side, the whole HUdson Yard.... I could go on and on but bottom line, this is indeed the most exciting time in the city's architectural landscape in quite some time; probably unrivaled in the western world. Insane!

Michael Stern’s JDS Development and Kevin Maloney’s Property Markets Group have begun construction at the ultra skinny 1,350-foot hotel and condominium tower in Midtown, slated to be the city’s tallest residential tower if all goes as planned.

The 60-foot-wide SHoP Architects-designed structure, slated to rise at 111 West 57th Street (previously reported as 107 West 57th Street), will stand 100 feet taller than the Empire State Building and is partially situated on a landmarked site.
Excavation began this week, the New York Post reported.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the design back in October of last year. The planned tower would be covered with bronze-and-white terra-cotta stripes, as The Real Deal previously reported.
JDS and Property Markets bought the parcel, along with the land lease, 45,000 square feet of air rights and a neighboring property for $131.5 million in March of 2013.

At a third project that’s got a much longer way to go, excavation proceeds apace on 111 W. 57th St.
That’s the super-slender, 1,350-footer previously identified in roughly 300 articles — inaccurately, its spokespersons say — as 107 W. 57th St.

The gently rippling tower designed by SHoP Architects has also been misrepresented in nearly every instance as a JDS project.
It is in fact a joint venture of Kevin Maloney’s Property Markets Group (PMG) and Michael Stern’s JDS Development Group, the same successful partnership behind the record-setting Walker Tower condo conversion.

In a sign that things are about to kick into high gear, PMG just moved a team into the adjacent 17-story Steinway building, the recently designated landmark, that will be incorporated into the project as part of its retail component. Steinway will line up at sidewalk level with a new glass at the tower’s base.

I walked by the site this afternoon and there was no equipment to be seen. I'm sure excavation is about to begin, but Cuozzo was wrong.

Excavation or demolition? There is not really much to excavate and I thought parts of Steinway and adjacent structures need to be demolish first.

111 W.57 is quite obviously skinnier than 432 Park.
