what do y'all think?

The education and administrative building is interesting with it's distinctly different designs on each side of the building. I like it.

Speculation aside, I am curious as to what UT has planned. ( Can't imagine a move this big would not already have solutions for moving such a large facility!)
Yes please if anyone knows about the Erwin center replacement please chime in. We go there for basketball games and find the facility very adequate from our cheap seats POV.

The Erwin Center is gone no matter what. 7 to 10 years remaining life with that facility, buildings are already being planned for that plot.

Hope they find a replacement site soon

I was expecting it to be larger. Seems a bit small for UT's main campus. I'm not saying Houston Medical District size or anything like that but somewhere in between.

The Texas Medical Center is truly massive and Austin simply won't be able to come anywhere close to that. Besides, this is still phase 1.

Eventually, I imagine we could see additional hospital buildings on nearby land over time: maybe a cancer hospital, a women's hospital, a neurological/neurosurgical hospital, an out-patient surgical center, etc. Also, with phase II and phase III we'll see more research labs and medical buildings.

I don't think they can go very high. Isn't a lot of this area in CVCs? It'll be very dense, though.

There's the rub. We all know the Eriwn has been "planned out". BUT what hasn't been revealed is the plan to replace it.
Can't imagine they left that out of the "master Plan"…. the replacement is too important to the University and the City.
I would bet money UT already has a plan, they just arn't playin that card yet.
It will be interesting to see this "phase" unfold.

Austin's medical center will probably, over time, come to resemble San Antonio's. It never be as massive as Houston's. There may be three or four small skyscrapers that are eventually part of the agglomeration of buildings in this area, but they're more likely to be non-direct projects that are spurred by the creation of the district such as medical offices. I fully expect that we'll see three or four 350-ish towers in this area 30 years from now.

I trust Patterson, a basketball guy, and a guy that helped get Reliant Stadium built, will come through.

Is it just me or is the MOB on the right the exact same height as the 8 story building next to it?

Actually, Patterson alluded to the possibility that the Erwin Center would be torn down within five years in a recent Q&A with Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com. The University is already looking at potential sites for a new arena.

Is Brakenridge in a CVC? I believe it is part of phase 2 and will be torn down.

I believe in an earlier post that my reaction to the Admin bldg was, "ewww", but I don't mind the Recearch and MOB that much. I do like the way they are angled.

I thought that, too, at first, but if you start by counting the garage levels and get to the top, there are 10 floors. Garage levels tend to have shorter ceiling heights than occupied floors do, so that's the reason it appears about the same.

Apparently I was confused. I was thinking the MOB was the dark building on the right and the research was on the left.

Wait a minute, you're correct. The Research Building is the one on the left while the MOB is on the right.

I LOVE the that UT is finally placing a medical school in Austin. In fact, I was on the board of a group who created the foundation of what we see today. The only argument I have is the choice of location. UT is both limited by total square footage and height on the project site. Thus, the choice of location may lead to be detrimental to the institution's growth potential!

It looked like they had another rendering of one of the buildings, but it's behind the pay slab...
