Bay Street North

Hi all. I have spent the last 2 days thoroughly enjoying all the content and photos about Hamilton on this site. We have bought 2 houses downtown (Bay St N and John St N) and are having fun fixing them up. The house on Bay I found in a picture flar posted, but somehow can't post it from my desktop. It's a 2.5 storey brick semi in a row of 6.

Anyway, I am trying to date the house at 200 Bay Street N. From what I can find, it seems as though the numbers changed on that street (this used to be #148). I found this in the Vernon's directory (in 1888 John Early, a teamster, lived there) and by 1897 it had been changed to #200. Each of the 6 houses in the row have stained glass numbers above the door (with the new numbers in the 200s).

The house is just north of Sheafffe.

I must say I am disappointed we haven't found any cool old relics in there...just a dirty old plastic horse and an old pair of mens' shoes...

Again, love this site and all the history you have provided. We are excited to do our part to bring back a little bit of the old character to the city
