I've heard rumblings that Lansdowne Mall might hit the market. Seems like the owner passed away and the children are considering it's redevelopment value.

It would make sense. It's fallen so far behind Richmond Centre, and it's too close to it to try and make a comeback and compete. All the stores are typical struggling mall sort of places. I agree that it's a prime area for redevelopment. They don't really have much to lose.

The only store that seemingly has any sort of real draw in Target (and it is probably under performing) and a few restaurants but that mall is pretty sad. Probably time to pull the plug.

Frankly that whole area could use a revamp including the two complexes on akroyd.

An indiviual owner? That's bizarre.

The City of Richmond, in its No. 3 Rd corridor plans anticipated that the site would be subdivided into parcels:

I had heard someone in Hong Kong, not surprising for Rmd.

Not to mention most of the remaining anchors have shaky futures (FutureShop, Toysrus, Best Buy, even Hudson's Bay's plans for Home Outfitters isn't clear.)

Seeing as how none of the non anchors in the mall are anything special, redevelopments with podiums for Winners, HomeSense, Target and maybe Jysk? Otherwise they can try to secure a spot in other neighboring malls (Sears Richmond Centre site?) or move to the outskirts of the city in a more big box style development.

Surprisingly enough in many of the chains, their Landsdowne store is one of the region's best performers.

Would be nice if they put something like this as a redevelopment for Lansdowne:

Everyone eats food

Also, posts expressing hope that North Van becomes like Hong Kong, while I sympathetic, are outside the topic.

The mall is terrible. It's full of no name brand stores that constantly have going out of business sale signs in their windows.

I'm pretty sure the only businesses that makes money there is Toys R Us, Gingeri and that farmer's market.

Now with Walmart finally coming to Richmond close by, it will only drive away more of their business.

Redevelopment gets my approval, for sure.

Just a quick Robson St. observation ( should perhaps go in the restaurant thread )..

The former Moxie's space above American Eagle at Bute and Robson has been leased. Does anyone know who the tenant will be? My hopes are for something slick as the area badly needs something fresh and visual.

That definitely is a strange space the way it is accessed etc. Would not be surprised if joeys took a crack at robson but that building is so dated and really is screaming for an update.

What does "final clearance" mean in retail speak? Because Winners in Lynn Valley is having one and the store is slowly emptying out. Losing it will be bad news for the rest of the mall, which is really nothing more than a food market at this point anyway. They lost Zellers in 2012.

I think that just Winners and Homesense's annual end of season clearance - inventory clear-out.
The Homesense on Robsoin downtown has the same signs and an unusually high number of empty shelves - it's the same each year at this time.

WRT Lansdowne, on a smaller scale, half of the former Harbour Park Mall in downtown Nanaimo (now called Port Place) has been demolished to create a road slicing the site in half with streetfront retail.

Click on the pic or the site plan.
The adjacent casino formerly housed a Sears store in the 1980s and was connected to the rest of the mall.

I don't suspect it's anything of the calibre of Joey, IMO that corner has gone rather down-market and lacks any sort of cache or appeal. Unless there's some major redevelopment of that complex or the London Drugs complex across the street, I believe Bute and Robson has firmly established itself as a rather unappealing corner with little or no draw.

Just part of the migration eastward of anything worth noting on Robson these days.

Korean Restaurant will go in the space.

The Shops at New West Station is getting a glass atrium to protect it from the elements. Work needs to be done when Skytrain isn't running. Good idea, the rain makes the area damp and not very lively.

Thanks for the update I haven't driven by in over a year-is the gubmint liquor store going to change much?

They always had a good selection of everything.

I think the coldstone roll out in tim hortons was a huge mistake. If it was done as more of a standalone concept even if attached to a tim's it would have been more successful. They are quite popular in the USA and considerably cheaper than Marble Slab is. Most people aren't thinking "ice cream" when they think Tim Hortons.
