I get why there's so much development along Yonge, but why doesn't the West branch of the subway have similar built-upness?

because of where it is built, in the middle of a freeway. And zoning regulations have been tight preventing a lot of development along it as it runs through established residential neighborhoods. The north end of the line and the new extension will have lax zoning around it, so you will see highrises along there.

its also only had 1/2 the time o build up as yonge. (or at least yonge south of Eglinton)

Its the same with Bloor, it hasn't had major intensification along it because of tight zoning.

Montreal. A few are already developed or in development such as the ones around the Molson Centre of course.

This one isn't downtown, but it's the biggest parking in the GTA as far as I'm aware.

Canada's Wonderland's lot measures about 1.3km by 200m.

I think Vancouver wins for surface parking coverage in Canada - or lack thereof, rather. Map I did a few years ago, for this thread: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=191539. I may have missed a few, but a number of these have also been accounted for since then.

Montreal is way worse than I expected or remember.

Vancouver is kind of mind-blowing.

A few parking lots are not a bad thing. Nothing but builldings makes it harded to get your bearings. While it would be better if they were parks rather than parking it's still useful to get a decent bit of space and not feel trapped between a road and a wall the whole time.

Montreal is the worst. It's embarrasing.

Just look at all of the parking lots as opportunities.

I tried to do one of Moncton, but ended up with more red than not, so gave up.

Among "the big three", sure, but in comparison to the rest of the country? Not by a long shot. Moncton, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Kitchener, and all sorts of miscellaneous smaller cities are far worse.

The strange thing is you don't get that impression when you're there. Of course, you don't really in any of the Big 3... but it definitely does not feel the way that map suggest it would when you're in Montreal.

I found the surface parking quite invasive the last time I was in Montreal. It's one of the things that bothered me the most about it. But then again I'm picker than most in that regard.

I never even noticed it. Which makes me worry I might just be too infatuated with the city to see its faults. But, honestly, I could pass a lie detector test that:

1. I have walked the entirety of downtown Montreal.
2. I saw no surface parking lots.

I honestly never noticed.

In terms of Halifax we're doing pretty good, but it depends on what parts on central Halifax you go to. If you steer clear of the waterfront you may start to think we don't have any, but if you hang around the waterfront too much you might start to think you've been transported to Winnipeg or Moncton.

Meh, Halifax is fine. You have to go to places where you'd expect it to have surface parking lots to find them.

I don't know about everyone else, but I Google "downtown name of city surface parking lot map".

There's actually a couple in the process of vanishing, but I think there's also two new ones.

Looking at Winnipeg I'd say the two cities are about on par, but Winnipeg has the excuse of flooding.
