Good news: A new poster at UT is claiming that the OMB challenge against Massey Tower has been dropped. If true, construction can start very shortly.

Who cares if they are upset. These suits will be sold to offshore investors anyway.

Dude.
Pause!....

Listen to yourself.

Are people not ever going to attempt to live in these units? Investors tend to want to rent out to recover their investment. Most of these shoebox condo towers aren't filling up.

These — shoeboxes are filling up which could be an unfortunate legacy of this lasting boom. Who cares about the unaffordability or these — layouts dominating the marketplace. Our skyline kicks —.

I fail to understand how some people who post here regularly seem to have a problem with buildings that they will never live in being populated by the rich, or foreigners, or even being bought by some faceless stranger and never lived in at all. Who cares? If you really do care that much, then go out and become a developer and build buildings that average people like yourself can afford to live in.

So Asian People love burning their money in Giant Bonfires, why should I care?

Some rich 18 year old punk from China is gonna live in a Shoebox, why should I care?

What am I missing here?

Who the hell cares about the unit sizes except for the people that buy them. If the units are not good and they don't sell, its the developers problem. Free market economics in full effect. This is how we live here, get use to it.

Canadian consumers care about affordable housing prices.
Streetscape businesses only thrive when residential towers are occupied with people who will actively be consumers in the local economy -- not absent foreign owners.

And the developers are allowed to jump ship once the building's construction is finished, leaving the tower's long-term maintenance in doubt.

Ask people in BC about just who cared about the public dollars spent on Vancouver's condo mess. The free market is capable of creating a mess for the public to clean up.

these units don't sit empty, they are rented out. private condo corps have essentially replaced entire rental buildings that were built en mass in the 60's and 70's.

There's no need to get racist here. Of whatever demographic, of whatever ethnicity, of whatever nationality: I want these people to bring their money and themselves to Canada.

My objection is to how these residential towers are going half-occupied (harming local retail) and how foreign investment is likely artificially inflating the demand for these residential units, making them unaffordable for a growing number of Canadians.

Part of social mobility and the stability of a large middle class is for Canadians to be able to afford to pariticipate in the real estate market.
