Future Mayor,

Thanks for that. I was having a hard time visualizing the biggest possible connections from the existing convention center. That just bumped up my support to be all about RWP. Which...my support doesn't mean jack. But I agree that it makes the most sense as far as continuous space goes. As a convention goer, that would be my pick.

It's better than the gas station that was there.

My best guess would be that the Hotel will end up somewhere on block 67.

Where is that? I am unfamiliar with specific block numbers in SLC.

In the image that SLC Projects posted a few pages back with two towers on on 67 I don't see that as an unrealistic proposal. This image shows a tower on the NW Corner of 200 S and 200 W and a second tower on the SE corner of 100 S and 300 W, with the connection to the Salt Palace over 200 W. That entire proposal takes up only two parcels, two parcels that happened to be owned by the same company. Who's to say the owners wouldn't sell them both at the same time. Depending on how much large hall Expo space is needed, I could easily see them using both parcels for convention center and hotel space.

Here are the two parcels.

I actually think that they could accomplish this while still providing a mid-block N/S access, maybe a street, maybe just pedestrian. I could see them placing the large expo halls on the portion that is currently occupied by RWP and the Post Office, with a connector over the mid-block access connecting to the other portion of the hotel and meeting spaces on the NW corner of the block.

Totally for the RWP site, but let's hope it looks more interesting than this.

Here is some potential good news for SLC. I have friends that live in Norway. One of which works for Norwegian Air Shuttle. The airline is in the process of adding, building, and growing their United States presence. They already fly to or have plans to serve Orlando, Los Angeles, Oakland, New York, and Ft. Lauderdale, in the U.S.

With that she told me the following which is that Norwegian Air Shuttle is studying and looking into adding Salt Lake City by maybe spring or summer 2015. They have their main long haul hubs in Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and London-Gatwick. She said if service is added to SLC, that two or possibly three of the hub cities would offer nonstop flights to SLC using their 787.

Here is their website if you want to learn more about them.

I assume that you are talking about the outside of the tower. Looking at 222, and renderings of 111, the exterior of the complex will be glass and steel.

I would expect that the framing will also be steel with concrete spray protection and flooring on top of steel plates.

Generally, that is the process for commercial buildings. Residential buildings and hotels are generally concrete and rebar construction.

As a half Swede, that is exciting news, but I just can't see the demand for a CPH, OSL or ARN flight to SLC. Hope I'm wrong!

Definitely an improvement. I will reserve final judgment until I see it in person, but I would much rather have this building in my neighborhood than the "Borge Cube." I agree it seems to fit quite nicely into the context of South Temple.

I wish the two new hotels going up across ESA were a little taller, well atleast to make an impact from this angle. 111 and the cch will look pretty neat from here.

I'm glad someone finally managed to get an updated pic. Thanks Atlas!

I agree farmerboy, though it's kind of hard to make a final judgment from the rainy day pic. I'm thinking the materials and detailing will make a big positive difference. It looks to me to be a fairly accurate historical representation, including the eclectic details.

Some good news on 500 South after a terrible fire further east, the Seasons at Library Square project now has a building permit and all of their permits to demolish the existing structures on the site. The project is located at the SE corner of 500 South 300 East.

This is probably not a surprise, but the owners of the Newhouse apartment building that burned down Sunday plan to rebuild.

Investigators to begin probing downtown Salt Lake City fire scene

This is great news. I really like the design for that location.
