The Hotel Indigo was granted two variances by city of Austin Planning Commission Tuesday night and expects to begin the demolition of the garage currently on site in the next two weeks.
Hotel Indigo, a project at 805 Neches St., is a 10-story, 283,241-square-foot hotel with access to Red River and Ninth streets. The hotel is expected to open in the spring or summer of 2015.
To move forward, the project needed a waiver for the parking garage to be located adjacent to Ninth Street and to allow a hotel land use between the parking garage and Ninth Street.
City staff recommended the waivers be granted because of the shallow depth of the lot from Ninth Street and the steep slope of the street. Staff also agreed with the applicant that the hotel will be an attractive pedestrian use because of the restaurant and bar as well as the great streets standards sidewalks on the remaining three street frontages.
Not all of the major construction activity in the Austin area is in the downtown core. HPI Real Estate Services & Investments, one of Austin’s most prolific real estate companies, broke ground this week on a new building in the San Clemente office and retail park in West Austin, with a technology company tenant on board.
Located at Westlake Drive on the west side of Capital of Texas Highway, the new building will rise five stories and encompass 250,000 square feet.
Spiceworks Inc., a local technology company, has signed on for 95,000 square feet. The new building is scheduled to be completed in May 2015, and Spiceworks will be moving from the Ladera Bend office complex which is on FM 2222 west of Capital of Texas Highway.
Anyone else see the full page photograph of Austin's skyline on page 6 of the Statesman's Metro section today? The photo was seriously outdated. Didn't even show the Austonian. Someone at the Statesman was asleep at the wheel (as usual).
I'm really liking how the JW Marriott is coming together. And man, 5th Street is looking dense. And I'm looking forward to seeing 7th & Rio Grande rising more. That angled side is different.

So, now we go on Block 1 watch. It's gonna be surreal to see those roads connected. We could see work as soon as a week from now. Good lord, I'm excited.
Right now, the southwest edge of downtown > the southeast edge of downtown. I consider these regions competitors. The southwest is not messing around. They're serious. They mean business. They're getting shit done. The southeast? Not so much. Lots of talk, but no action. Get your shit together, southeast people. Fight for your hood! Develop it. Quit blowing hot air or you risk being labeled "unserious".
We need a really detailed rendering of our skyline with all the current u/c and proposed projects. Just like back in 08' -- And yes, Southwest DT is much more serious and has MUCH more of an urban hood feel.
I don't know if this has been previously posted, but does anyone have any details on this project? 5th & West - next door to Austin City Lofts. Appears to be around 450' to the penthouse.

Awesome find Mopacs, The project will be called Fith + West and will top out at 420 ft. to the top floor and 450 ft to the mechanical. AusTxDevelopment has the inside scoop.

I need details now. Is this really happening? Holy smokes there is SO MUCH HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.
Good God, just when I was fearing things were showing down but I just hope this project goes the way of the Bowie and the Marriott, not the way of the Magellan project and the Planetarium.
